Sorry no straight today. This is my annual double edge shave. As some of you know this was my Dad's razor and the one I started shaving with. The significance is that he was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked and this razor was there too. Something I don't want to forget and he couldn't. I would like to be able to pass this tradition on to my son or son-in-law. He passed away 43 years ago at the age of 51.

I need to stop with this soap. Something in it reacts poorly with my skin and I get a low grade burning sensation when I use it. The soap itself performs nicely and it was a good shave despite the reaction.

Prep - Italian Almond Soap / Facial Sauna
    Razor - Ever Ready 1912
Blade - GEM Personna SE (#1)
    Brush - Omega 20106
Soap - Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna (with glycerine)
After - Alum / Witch Hazel
    Result - BBS

First time with SE and I'm shocked at the result. Found it very intuitive compared to starting with DE. The blade tugged slightly at the start but I was expecting it. I also came across my wife's old facial sauna when I was clearing out some boxes yesterday and thought I'd try it. I usually prep with Kyle's Method after a shower but I thought I'd live dangerously!
I was expecting some razor burn and at least a few nicks or whatever but no, not even a sting with the Alum.

Late post as I am redecorating the bedroom (under strict supervision from the SWMBO) today. :D Getting a new headboard and frame as well as a new mattress and base; of course there are all those other "small changes" that have to be done. ;)

All in all a really great shave.

Remembering that day so long ago, and those that served. My dad was 101st Airborne and dropped in from time to time all over Europe in WWII. Thinking of him on days like today I remember watching him with fascination as he went through his daily ritual. So in his memory I used what he would have used back then, as much as I could. He loved grapefruit. Good shave. Thanks Dad!

Thank you, but the brush isn't as soft as you would imagine it. The knot is 28 X 50mm and it has tons of backbone and it has some scrub. I don't find it as soft as my Chubby 2 Supers.
Regardless, it is still a lovely brush and it photographs, so very well. :)

    Sunday:
hot shower w/Crabtree & Evelyn Sandalwood bar soap
    Homemade PSO
    Gillette FatBoy (9) 2 passes
    Rapira Swedish Supersteel (3)
    VDH badger
Proraso Red soap in a warm bowl
    Thayers unscented w/aloe
    D R Harris Sandalwood AS

My last shave was Thursday night so I almost shaved last night but needed to play dress up this afternoon so I waited until this morning. An excellent two pass shave today. This is the third shave with this Rapira SS and I'm really liking this blade. The VDH badger however, went in the trash can. I love my VDH boar brushes but the badger is worthless. I bought it several months ago when it was half price at Walgreens and I've never liked it simply because it has no backbone. I put a couple rubber bands around the base and it helped somewhat but there was really no need to keep it. Mind you it's very hard for me to throw things away that I've only used a few times so today was quite cathartic as I also threw away some Shea Moisture shave butter (sorry, Kevin) and two cans of Barbasol. The shave butter sounded exotic when I saw it at CVS only to take it home and find out the smell was putrid. The Barbasol just kept sitting there because I own an electric lather warmer but I'm afraid it'll never get used because I just can't go back to the canned stuff even warmed up. Maybe eventually I'll get up the courage to throw the lather warmer away.

    Sunday Shave...

I kept it focused today and my goal was to really concentrate on my neck area. I only needed 2 passes to achieve a DFS. I found out that a cheap travel spray bottle pump fits pefectly on my Fine aftershave bottle. The spray version works much better for me.

    Have a good one gents...

SUNDAY, 12/7. Second day with my Merkur 41c 1904

Same setup as yesterday. I really want to like this razor. I love the feel and balance. It appears to shave beautifully, but it is so mild that I keep having to rework areas. I may have made a mistake trying a new razor AND a new blade because I don't know what to think of my results. Today's shave was "OK", passable, not great. With my hand WTG feels fine, ATG there is noticeable stubble. Gonna stick with this setup for a while longer, at least until I use up the two 7 O'clock blades I have. Onward to Monday!

as long as you hold your breath while applying.
if you breathe in atomized Florida water or virgin island bay rum, you got problems.
