Yuma razor pass around, anyone?

I agree! If you've got to bug out due to a Sharknado the last thing you want is to be dealing with a Yuma razor. Have something decent in there. If not a vintage SS order a $9 Weishi 9306/Microtouch TTO and put that in with some good blades.

Since my coming of age years took place in the nuke-crazed 80s, I have watched a lot of post apocalyptic movies over the years... And the evidence clearly points to the fact that everyone will shave with either a hunting knife, a sharpened tin can lid, or in rare cases, a random shard of broken glass. So I would suggest starting to practice with those items.

In all seriousness, my vote for bug out razor- a Rolls. Think about it, yes it is a little bulky, a little heavy, but, 1) It comes with its own super durable (and stylish!) protective case. 2) it is a complete, compact blade care kit. 3) it has zero disposable elements, and thus never needs a new blade. 4) has almost no complicated moving parts. Less even than a straight. It is a blade on a stick. 5) And they are tough, seeing that the most recent Rolls razors are more than half a century old and could be made shave ready with little effort. Plus they don't seem to suffer any metal or mechanical disorders, I rarely see a Rolls that needs more than a clean up to be used.
So, Rolls Razor. Perfect for shaving while the world burns. That unfortunately doesn't solve where you will keep your soap pucks and creams, lotions, aftershaves, brushes, cologne, lather bowls, mugs, maybe a scuttle and possibly appropriate hair product while you travel the wasteland.

I may grab a handful of razors from my cabinet if something happens lol. I just don't want to miss a razor from my rotation for in case, I guess heh

The apocalypse will not be televised...but there will be Vitalis!

    Great thoughts about the Rolls...

Check out this one I saw online. Just $13(!!). Is it just me, or is the box significantly nicer than the razor deserves?

It is not you. That case is far too classy for a Yuma!

    I
might it look better with a custom blue finish?

Im actually looking forward to trying this. I hear it's pretty mild, but that's okay, I get great results from mild shavers. Granted, I've never tried anything super aggressive either...

Now some are mild and some are wild. It is the luck of the draw with the YUMA!

Can't wait to get yet another viewpoint. I am burning with curiosity wondering what random attributes will be revealed by a third Yuma!

I think if they made the case without the YUMA name the case would sell like hotcakes.

O.K. here is the mini review based on two days with the YUMA.

The inspection of the "Third YUMA" that I found in the box came with quite a surprise. When the blade was loaded it aligned up evenly with the same gap distance on both sides of the head. I thought, hmm this could be a defective one, being symmetrical and such.

I shaved with it and found it to be very noisy due to the hollow handle. Both sides shaved pretty close to the same since each gap was fairly symmetrical and properly aligned. The YUMA provided a not too shabby two pass DFS and I thought that the next days shave would entail about the same.

How wrong I was about the next day. There is a very legendary DE razor that I tested some time ago. I noted about that razor something special due to the construction and geometry of the head, it would and did extend the lives of all the blades tested, and allowed most blades to become a "good blade." The YUMA is the exact opposite of that legendary DE razor. The second day the blade I had used the prior day felt as if it were a blade that had been used for 15 days. Regardless of the angle of approach I could not get the YUMA to provide more than a two pass MAS (Marginally Acceptable Shave). The blade was communicating in wordless fashion "NO MAS!"

So I said "NO MAS" to the YUMA and pitched the pitiful blade which mortally wounded in the clutches of the YUMA. In the words of Scarlett O'Hara, "After all tomorrow is another day." It will, however, be another day ... just without the YUMA!

    <sigh>

Now, now... be fair. Saying that the folks at Yuma screen out their good units would require that they have some sort of quality controls in place. It is becoming clear to me that buying a Yuma is like a box of chocolates, Forrest!

What is most disconcerting is that I have not tried either of the two Yumas I have left from my lot of 5. My first, really good Yuma is about to come back from loan. I'll have to mark it to keep it separate from the other two! I used a Gillette Silver Blue in that one and got a one-and-done (+tu) BBS. I am a little reluctant to try the others, but maybe I owe it to this thread! I assume no one questions my objectivity...? ;)

I'm out of GSBs. Hmm... maybe I'll put a Bolzano in a Yuma and see what happens.

My two test shaves were on Bolzano Superinox...went really well! GSB is my everyday fave if I had to name one.

Did someone just claim a Grail shave on a Yuma? Nice work!
