If I had a decent bathtub with tray to hold my shaving items and mirror, I would totally take baths and shave in the tub. Why not? Just don't try to make toast.
Shaving in the tub sounds great and relaxing. The only thing I wonder about is the stubble in the water sticking to me everywhere.
I log each shave on an app, it's a copy of my SOTD, with notes. I use it as a reference when I have an issue such as irration, razor burn, etc.. I've noticed a trend in the past 45 days. I've basically stuck with one razor, high quality soaps, razor blades that work for me. Ive been rewarded with excellent shaves. Here's what I recommend: Do not introduce two new items in the same shave. If you don't have time to shave, wait until you do. Be mindful of the razor pressure It's ok to use the same razor for an extended period. Map out your beard What do you Gents recommend?
I could not agree more, especially on the time issue. It's a massive mistake not taking time! What's the app you're using, interested much!
Notes Pro. It was free at the time. Not sure now. I was using Evernote, the nice thing with Evernote was you could include a picture.
We ran Evernote on my last business venture. Learned it could be hacked easily and whilst changing, discovered we had indeed been hacked. A lot of damage was caused! Couldn't trust it again.
I tried a vintage Gillette Thin blade I received with the first DE I purchased last January. Then I thought I didn't know what I was doing, today I realized that some blades just get old and lose their edge. Mayhaps I ought not try to stockpile blades for the shavepocalypse.
From my last shave, I learned that a vintage 53 Gillette Tech is well suited to my technique, and Silver Blues (a fave) work well in it.
I'm starting to really like the blues too. I also learned the wilkinson swords are nice. I may have to revisit some blades I discarded as my technique has improved. And I still have to learn how to use a single edge.
That's where I am at. I spent two months on the Utopia, and am just now branching out. Thanks to sage advice on this forum, my technique is seemingly making blades not as critical as when I was brand new. I will take a look into Wilkinson next time I buy a sampler.
Today I learned that Voskhod blades can last past three shaves with very little degradation in performance. I feel I could push it more, but four is where I'll stip with Der Vorschlaghammer. I'm using my Aristocrat tomorrow with a new Voskhod, so maybe I'll try to get more than four with that combo.
I was reminded that shaving with a 1930s carbon blade can be quite fun, and will give as BBS as shave as any stainless.
.....that a Fatboy is a different shave to a Slim Adjustable. Gorgeous bit of kit and I'm ecstatic to finally have one!
