What did we learn from our last shaves?

Gentlemen, from my last shave...

I learned that shave two on a vintage razor is even better than the first shave from that same razor.

 

I learned that I cannot use a Lord Super Chrome for a third shave on my face after being used twice for head shaves. So far I haven't found any blades that give good results after two shaves.

 

Most blades I get two full head and face shaves (2-3 passes each). Astra SPs give me 3. Polisilver Super Iridiums give me at least 5, but the first couple can be a little harsh depending on the razor. Super smooth, but still end up with some razor burn.

 

I have done six face shaves comfortably on a Voskhod.

Gentlemen, from my last shave...

I learned that the MTO/VDH/Weishi 9306 is a capable and easy to use razor.

 

What did I learn?

Once I think I have this shaving thing down, I learn something new.

Tonight I didn't feel like doing the usual buffing on the jawline and throat, like I usually do trying to chase BBS, and just stopped and accepted a DFS.

However after applying aftershave I realized I was BBS. What the.....?

Still learning.

 

I think I'm learning that I'm not as fond of my 37c as I once thought. Good amount of irritation today and the shave wasn't that close. Going back to my shimmed NEW tomorrow.

 

Remember that combination of razor and blade and you might have found what works best for you!

 

I'm learning I either have terrible form with the schick eversharp SE or I don't know, but this is the third time I had major all over irritation and that was from with the grain one pass only. Thanks for the opportunity @Shotwell, but I believe I'll have to PIF it along soon. On the other hand, I am really digging the boar brush Eric PIF'ed me.

At first I wasn't sure. It was super hard and reeked. Now, no smell and it is soft. I plan on using it everyday for a week or so just to get the hang of it.

 

Yeah, the boar brush definitely breaks in over time. I used mine for all of November and it has broken in nicely and no longer stinks.

I have to say, I'm with you on the SEs. I know some people swear by them but I have never had an SE or injector shave that I liked. Even the Ever-Rrady, which I *want* to like, because it is so cool-looking.

 

I know what u mean. The razor looks wicked cool, but man it does some damage.

 

Same here. I have a bullet tip and a shovel head. I got a couple of decent shaves with the bullet tip, followed by a couple of very bad shaves. I got two very bad shaves with the shovel head. I set them aside for a few weeks, and I plan to give them another go next week when I have some time off of work to really go slow and pay attention to the angles and pressure.

 

You might try the SE version of "riding the cap." While keeping the head flat to the surface you are shaving, apply slight pressure to the heel while barely raising the toe. It is a little like popping a wheelie on a bike, but you maintain contact throughout. It creates a deflection and "skin wave." I don't shave my dome, so you are on your own there!

That the Schick Krona is still an extremely mild (maybe too mild) razor for me... But mine's a 1966 birth year so stays in the den.....
