That is so true. I window shop it daily, and have tried/avoided things because of the info presented. It's helped me sort through the mountain of available stuff. SOTD IMHO is the easiest way for a new TSD'er to jump right in and participate on TSD. It is the thread that drew me in, I usually start my TSD reading session on SOTD. And lately, this is the second thread I read. I also see the SOTD photo album on my phone as a bonus record of my shaves. And from my last shave... That I hit something of a benchmark, in that alum left no sensation. Technique was dialed in, and the soap/blade was just right.
Myself I do 2 shaves with one blade =) just to make sure I get the best possible shave. I have so many blades, I don't feel like I'm wasting them.
I love my proraso green too =) I get really nice shaves, plus the level of menthol is bareable and nice
Learned two things; a) That the L'Occitane Plisson is actually a very capable brush for face lathering. Used it w/ some Arko today and it worked just beautifully, and b) That even though I think my new-old Gillette Sheraton is an attractive razor and it delivered a close-BBS result in just two passes - I didn't, for some reason, quite enjoy shaving with it. Not sure why. Will have to experiment more.
Arko! I am still holding out hope I will get a Plisson, with back ordered and whatnot. But you know, Arko!
Love Arko. Speaking of the Plisson brush...it has now been taken off 'Out of Stock' and is available to order again http://usa.loccitane.com/cade-shaving-brush-plisson,82,1,29221,388683.htm
I call that "a shave too far." ... a reference to the film, of course... and a reminder to self about my goal for each shave: maximize shaving enjoyment. Cool thing is that's an adaptive goal. I find maximizing blade life frequently sacrifices enjoyment! SO... why do I keep getting sucked into "just one more shave... it'll probably be OK. I'll use an extra light touch?" It NEVER happens! Sheesh!
I know what you mean about not enjoying the shave even though it was a good one. My last shave with my aristocrat wasn't nearly as enjoyable as with the shave before with my Fatboy. It just felt not quite as smooth on the face, like I was scraping it with a shard of glass. Weird. Its felt like that before too.
I keep on going back to the Shick G injector, and keep on getting great shaves, with very little irritation..... so far, my go to razor
I learned that Feathers really are a great blade. BBS on three passes and absolutely no irritation. Gonna have to get some more of these.
Congrats! Someday I may give it a try for something very unique that few do (in the general population, not based on us diehards in the forum).
My regard for the Schick Krona was reinforced and I found I am not enamored with Bush Pilot shave cream. IMO, meh.
