Greetings from Gilligan and Walter! Over the years, there have only been two Bay Rum Aftershaves I have tried - Captain's Choice and Ogallala. Has anyone tried the W.M. Neumann and Co. Bay Rum or St. John's Bay Rum Aftershaves? If so, your thoughts?
I only hear great things about captains choice and ogalalla. I have to this day never used a bay rum scented aftershave =P
No wealth of experience here either, but I have used CPT's Choice Bay Rum (as well as their Lime and Cat O' Nine Tails) and really liked it. In fact, I'll be ordering another bottle here shortly.
<------ Is a Certified Bay Rum Nut, you really wouldn't believe how many different ones I really have hehehe The two you have tried are pretty heavy on the Clove/Cinnamon side the St John's is just a tiny bit lighter scent.. Basically there are two separate types of Bay Rum scents The lighter Island scents The heavier Cowboy Scents And of course many in between those two I have never heard of the Newman so I will be looking at that one I would suggest one of the Lighter Island scents next perhaps a Dominica, or the Bois de Inde, St Lucia since you have tried two of the heavier scents.. Royall Bay Rhum to me is a standard that all Bay Rum users should have
I have a Bay Rum problem. Go for the St. Johns. gssixgun added some great insight and summed it up nicely. I can talk Bay Rum for hours...
@Kilgore Trout I saw in the Christmas thread you got a new one let us know what you think of it when you get time
You bet. I am developing a sound review. I can say with confidence upon first application it is the first bay rum I have used that may be the perfect marriage between cowboy and island.
BRAD = Bay Rum Acquisition Disorder? Tell me more. What you like and why? What you don't like and why? I'm all ears.
Of the following Bay Rum Aftershaves, what do you own and what did I miss? As you know, some of these manufacturers make several types of Bay Rum scents. I didn't list each scent separately. Royall Bay Rhum Ogallala Captain's Choice W.M. Neumann and Co. TOBS St. Charles Shave Trumpers West Indies Meehan Bay Rhum St. Thomas St. John's Dominica Lucky Tiger Caswell Massey Tropical Bay Rum Colonel Conk Clubman/Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum Turtle Bay
Here is a link to a very old thread with quite a large repository of info on only Bay Rum, hard to believe it has been almost 7 years since I started it
I thought I had it bad. I own: Royall Bay Rhum Ogallala Captain's Choice W.M. Neumann and Co. West Indies Meehan Bay Rhum St. John's Dominica Clubman/Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum Lucky Tiger What did you miss: Master's Krampert's Acadian Spice Superior 70 What do you think of the Dominica with Lime? That is all I use from Dominica now as the original is nearly impossible to find.
@Kilgore Trout You do have a bad case of BRAD! What about Lucia Bay Bay Rum? Should I pull the trigger on the Barclay Crocker 30 vial sampler?
It is very low on the totem pole for this wet shaver. I prefer their Aspen in that line. The Face Tonic in the 'luxury' line. It just doesn't jive with my perception of what a bay rum should be. I never Pif'd it, but it won't be replaced.
Ah yes, bay rum. God's gift to the human race! Krampert's Finest Acadian Spice bay rum is second to none. It is both soothing on the face and smells fantastic. Royall Bay Rhum and St. John's are also very good. Dominica is another option, and has been sold since the hogs ate my kid brother. I first saw it in an Orvis catalog, maybe 20 or 25 years ago. A long time anyways. Charles H. Baldwin & Sons is yet another fine bay rum.
