Well, I wish all of you gentlemen great luck! I could never do this as I enjoy posting different photos, each day!
The 30 day rule only applies to one razor, one brush, one soap and one blade type. The photos can change all you want based on what backgrounds and surroundings you wish to use.
I know I am using the Body Shop Cream, and Brush, and the GEM Clog Pruf, with SS PTFE blade. I really want to get proficient with the mmcp. Right now I feel that I am doing "training wheels" shaving using the Shick injectors. Great shaves that seem effortless to me. Not so much with the clog pruf.
Things I have on hand...I am considering these options for my 30 Day Rule. The blades immediately above are generically available at Walgreens and groceries and such. I believe they are Israeli made Personna. They are 10 blades for less than $3. May actually be an option for me. I hope you are still planning on some kind of thirty day exercise on this thread. I am going through my stock, today...it's like being a kid in a candy store trying to pick out my next 30 day setup. Perfect choice! 30 days and you'll likely master it! I am gonna encourage photos and cross posting to SOTD! Drop in anytime to check out our progress...and thanks for the kind words! Talking about angles again...do you plan on trying to lower the angle of attack presented to the skin? I had an experience with a Cadet TTO that makes me ask that. I got in over my head with an aggressive razor...I think my issues were made worse by trying to hold the Cadet the same way/angle that I employ on the Utopia.
I have been using my Weber PH for the last couple of months. It is one of my favorite razors! I will switch over to my new Mongoose with tomorrow's shave. I haven't used it yet, so I am looking forward to it! I plan to use Feather blades, a Kent BK4 brush, and Mike's Natural Soap with it during the January run. I hope to post some decent pics as I get rolling. I look forward to learning and having fun along with everyone here. Chris, for hosting the party!
How do you like that LEA shave stick? I've really been wanting to grab some from shaveabuck? I'm still trying to figure mine out, I was going to use my 40s SS, but I just got a tech and flair tip from @Shotwell so I'm going to try those out before we begin.
Kerry, Winner! That is a serious looking razor. @Bristle Me is doing slants too. I can't wait to see how your exercise goes! I spent my first months zoned out on learning the Utopia with Arko and Proraso...I am a complete newbie in the soap arena, for the most part. I did however during that time accumulate a few soaps and razors for use as my skill grew. Lea was one of those...like you I was on shaveabuck and just ordered it on a whim. I face lather a lot, so I figure I will try any stick once. TSD lanolin sticks and Arko are the ones I am familiar with...I love them both. You are welcome. I started it hoping a big group razor party would break out. Maybe you could you post the dates you are running the exercise and details of your Rule. This is intended as free form yet with just enough focus to make it flow...I am merely instigating a little fun, and hopefully along the path some people will make breakthroughs and master the tools. People may be doing hybrid rules, as people will come in at all experience levels, and clear info facilitates fast learning. I am narrowing down my kit....
I look forward to your updates throughout the month. Chris, I look forward to your updates on the "Goose". Mine should have arrived yesterday but shipping issues pushed that back until mid week next week. I will finish this 30 days with the New LC and move onto the Goose. Clint
Good luck to all of you taking part. I tried this in November and it was a fun and rewarding experience. I learned a lot about my technique. I would do it again but Santa bought me too many fun things to try. I hope you all enjoy this.
I understand this completely. I have little to no patience in general so this will be an interesting exercise for me. On the bright side, I will get to see how much of dent I can make in that giant tub of Soap Commander during 30 days.
You might wanna post a shot of the rubberset loaded in a car-wash-sized helping of soap commander. Those handles are quite photogenic.
My Jagger de89 should be here between the 2nd and 7th so I'll start my 30 days when it gets here. Will the 5 blades it comes with last me a month of daily shaving? The HEB by me sells their own brand of blades which is Hill Country which I might go with instead to keep everything constant for 30 days.
5 good blades can last a month. However, IIRC the EJ razors come with Derby blades. Many people avoid them.
I'll be sure to get a photo. Not only is it photogenic, the thing is a lather monster. Even I can get a great lather with this one.
At what point do you decide the blade isn't for you? I mean I could think a blade was bad if my technique was bad correct? I'd just hate to jump ship to early on a particular blade.
Blades are the most individual part of this in some ways. If a blade is not irritating your skin, causing weepers, razor burn then you are probably good to go. Your thoughts about technique is correct. Don't sweat it too much...it has been my experience that many blades can work out. My fave is Gillette Silver Blue, but that doesn't ultimately mean anything other than I like it. Don't worry about finding a fave, it will find you. Just find one you can use comfortably.
