Hey man no worries! Come on over...http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...ay-rule-pic-discussion-all-are-welcome.42165/ When you get the stuff, just start your thirty days...if you are interested in thirty days of learning your razor, we are the group for you!
Does Parker only have 1 3 piece head? My wife got me their travel razor for Christmas and I'm thinking it may be the same as the 71r
Ok you got me. Just acquired my 1914 about 3 minutes ago. So, January is 30 day rule, March is Lather Catcher month, anything in February?
Well, this gent will just have to dust off the equipment and start the production process up again!
So I loaded the 71R with an Astra SP and got a very nice shave. First pass was DFS and second pass was half way between a pass and extended touchups. End result was a BBS with just a little bit of irritation. I suspect the irritation was leftover from yesterday's second run with the Bic, which was a weeper fest. SO... what is the lesson for the day? 1. Bic Super Chromes may not be good for my face! 2. Loaded with an Astra SP, the Parker 71R does just fine by me, so is not my 30 Day Challenge razor. <sigh> I may choose one of my SEs for the 30DC. I get really good shaves with the SEs, but not quite BBS in the concave trouble spots. Maybe 30 days will clean those right up! Hmm... so which SE? I'm thinking an ER 1924. I have a few, both the more and less aggressive varieties. I don't know that Parker uses the same head for all 3-piece razors, but it makes sense that they would. After your post, I looked very closely at the head and compared it to my Utopia (which is a very good shaver - on par with my EJ DE89). The Parker and Utopia heads are the same design, but the base plate on the Parker was not quite as thick as the Utopia. I couldn't see any other difference, but I did not take the razors apart, either. I think the larger picture is the importance of finding the razor + blade combination that suits your face. Now that I've gotten a good shave from my 71R, I can easily say that my most recent poor shaves from the 71R were from using the wrong blade. My earliest 71R shaves were rife with poor technique. The hindsight is obvious, isn't it? In my case, painfully so... quite literally! Hey! Post a review of the travel razor. I'd like to see how it drives for you. Also, if you post pics, I'll post some of my 71R. (NOTE: My photography skills are not so hot.)
I'll probably do one in February or so. I got a decent shave out of the travel razor but I had to be really careful, it's more aggressive that I really want it to be. At least right now. I think after using the tech for a month I may give it another go.

Parker use the same head design for all their 3 Piece razors regardless of plating materials. For years the QC on Parker 3 Piece heads was horrid. Evidently they have worked to improve quality over the years but the heads are still not on a par with EJ or Muhle for consistency of tolerances between each head produced.
I didn't realize this but I am in the middle of a 30 day test. I wont have all of my blades in time to give a January start justice but will be taking this approach. Read a lengthy post somewhere about this approach and thought it was brilliant in it's simplicity.
