    New Years Eve S.O.T.D.
    December 31, 2014

Prep: Hot - Warm Shower, Stirling Bath Soap - Barbershop, Neutrogena Face Wash
Razor: iKon 102 Slant with iKon Bulldog Handle
    Blade: Ladas - #3
    Brush: Omega 636 Silvertip
Lather: Martin De Candre - Savon A Raser
Post: Razo Rock - Alum Stick, Aloe Vera Toner, Witch Hazel+, Gold Bond Green Lotion
    Aftershave: Proraso Aftershave Lotion
    Cologne: Burberry

The Martin de Candre Shaving Soap far surpassed my expectations. My Silvertip brush whipped up an incredibly thick and creamy lather. The MDC's cushioning was excellent and the moisturizing outstanding. The scent (Lavender) was subtle yet pleasant, growing stronger as the shave progressed. The lather improved the performance of the iKon 102 Slant which glided through my whiskers like a hot knife through butter. A BBS shave, completed in record time, with no nicks, no burns, and no weepers.

    Pre - Corn Huskers
    Soap - RR Zi Peppino
    Brush - Plisson Synthetic
Razor - L3 Superspeed Flair Tip
Blade - Personna Lab Blue (3)
    AS - Pinaud Clubman

Overall a good shave. Personna Lab Blues appear to be a 3 and out blade, which is OK at their price point and may buy bulk only because it appears some of them are still made in USA.

    Schick J1 razor
    Personna 74 blade
    Williams SS
    Plisson/L'Occitane synthetic brush
    Osage Rub/Witch Hazel/Sage mix
    Aqua Velva Ice Sport A/S

Moved the Personna blade from my G1 to the J1 to mediate the sharpness of the Personna 74 blade. Didn't work, still got nicks/weepers. On a positive note, the Plisson works up the best Williams lather ever.

    Thank you Gary.

The idea of this photo is very simple. You only need a monitor with a nice wallpaper and a camera. Below my preparation from the last year:

    31 December 2014 Shave

An absolutely wonderful shave today with the Schick J3 / Gillette Twin Injector combination. I really enjoyed this setup today.

This will also be the last of the vintage radio, phonograph and television background motif which allowed me to combine a couple of my pursuits together in one image.

Very good shave today, though not as good as yesterday. I prefer my Aristocrat over Der Vorschlaghammer at this point. I got a nice close shave, but the Aristocrat was more comfortable. The soap lathered easily and great again. The scent is refreshing and the Fine Platinum compliments it nicely.

    Prep: Kiehl's face wash
Soap: Cold River Soap Works Citrus
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: Der Vorschlaghammer
    Blade: Astra SP (1)
    AS: Fine Platinum

Had a nice shave. Face felt a little sore. I am not sure if it is the soap. I hope not because I really enjoy it. Nice scent and great lather. I will try it for a few more days and see how it goes.

    Prep: wash with glycerin soap
    Soap: Straight Razor Designs unscented
    Brush: Oscar11 HIS synthetic
    Razor: Feather AS-D2
    Blade: Super Iridium
    After: Cold rinse, shea butter

The Straight Razor Designs soap is a new soap that I received as a Christmas gift. The soap is transparent, similar in appearance to the clear unscented glycerin soap that I wash my face with. Not only is this soap free of any added fragrance, it has hardly any scent at all! Most of the unscented soaps that I use, especially tallow based ones, have a characteristic "soapy" smell, but this one smells like nothing at all. That is a good thing from my point of view.

The soap loaded and lathered easily on my face. Good lather, slick enough, gave me a comfortable shave. The lather rinsed off easily and my face felt squeaky clean afterwards. Nice!

This was a night and day difference from the Stirling unscented soap that I used yesterday. That is a good soap, too, just very different from this one. The Stirling is tan colored, has a very distinctive soapy smell, and takes some effort to rinse off. Part of that certainly is the moisturizing ingredients, that are good for the skin, especially in the winter time.
