There's a nice lil' bit on Big Ben in the AFL documentary series Full Color Football. It starts at about 19:00 minutes in, but the whole episode, and the entire series come to that, is a real treat for fans of the old AFL. Seeing Big Ben on the lil' Honda motorcycle is just too funny (remember the old Honda adverts 'You meet the nicest people on a Honda.'? ). And some classic quotes from teammates as well - Carlton Oats - "If you make a tackle and Ben is not laying next to you...duck. 'Cause here comes Ben." Tom Keating - "Ben would hit the quarterback while he was getting in his car with his girlfriend after the ballgame. That was not a late hit to Ben." Some of the younger membership may know him better from his acting roles and especially his appearance in Arnie Schwarzenegger's Conan the Barbarian.
slow but steady. I'm doing my 'training' at home (i.e. combing & applying wax to train the hair growth). At the office, I let it just fall straight until it grows longer. Compared to this photo taken about a week ago, my mustache is maybe a quarter-inch longer—still too short to fully control unless I coat my whole upper lip with wax. I did try the Wacky Tacky—and its a good deal better than the previous products I had been trying. Your tutorial was a big help with the softening & application of product. Patently waiting for hair to grow another 1/2" or more to really get it into place..... I'm already getting called, 'D'Artagnan,' for people in the office already.... December 30:
@swarden43 @youngunn Mustache-in-Training days continue…. The stashe' is now finally getting to the point where it's comb-able with only a few stubborn yet random 'wild hairs.' I'm probably still a few weeks away from having something shapeable and then I'll be more conscientious about trimming and cleaning up all the peripheral growth. January 14….pre-shave
Slow, steady process update….two weeks from the last pic. Hey, its starting to take shape! Fewer issues with 'wild hair' control and the Wacky Tacky wax really has nice holding power. Big thanks again to Steve @swarden43 for his pictorial on the whole wax application process. It has really been a blessing in this endeavor for both me and my son. As I mentioned in the SOTD thread, having a bad head cold with a mustache-in-training creates 'issues.' About 7 weeks in….
Yeah, I hate the runny nose. I'll usually forgo the wax for about a week when dealing with a head cold. Trying to keep the 'stache clean during such times is just easier without the wax.
Is there a goal in mind? (8.0"!!!) or just satisfying curiosity? BTW: my 'stache pictured above is a 'hair' under 4.0" tip-to-tip.
