I've never been overly impressed with the 5-6 Wade & Butchers that have come across my path this past year. The last W&B big wedge I used was probably my favorite. With the Wostenholms, I've have gotten some better shaves. Aside from the 8/8 Wosty I posted above , I've had some really excellent shave from a few 5/8"wostenholms Currently I have this BIG 8/8 wostenholm taken apart on the bench (for new blond horn scales) that I'm looking forward to trying!
I agree. When I shaved with a few W&B and George Wostenholms, I much preferred the Wosty in looks, feel and shave.

Japanese Kenwa kamisori grind - first time ever that I honed one of these so today should be interesting
Let me know how it goes. I have 3 traditional kamisori and messed up the edges trying to touch them up and then rehoning.
Well it did not go as planned. I had the razor popping arm hairs nicely but it did not shave. I worked on it again today and went back farther in grit. 1st time just 8k on up. This time 1k, 4k, 8k, 12k, apache strata. I used dish soap on the 1k, 4k, 8k to make it go easy and smooth. I also used a slurry on the 8k, 12k and apache. Feels really good but the next shave will be the tester

Glen (gssixgun) starts the bevel at 8K for kamisori grind. I tried starting at 1K and didn't get it to shave. Like you they cut hair at skin level though. The shave is amazing when you can get it to work, a one pass very close shave.
On thinking more about it, the traditional kamisori have very soft steel and start at 8K. I bet the kamisori grind razor you have is regular hard steel like other western style Japanese straights and needs to start at the 1K. One of my kamisori was honed by a guy who hones lots of Japanese razors and he uses the 1 to 1 system of honing as you would any other razor, whereas, traditionally, a 1 to 2 or 1 to 7, etc. ratio was used. In other words less strokes on the "non-shaving" side of the bevel versus the "shaving" side.
