Day 18 Lab Report - 30 DAY RULE with a Slim Last night I kept razor dial at nine. I decided to really focus on doing a precise shave in the minimum number of strokes. First pass was true NS, making sure to slightly overlap each stroke. By riding the cap of the razor, I try to keep the blade angle low and consistent. On less aggressive settings, I had a tendency to lean on the razor...but this Slim loves setting nine with these blades, little oressure required. Pass two cleaned up the rest. DFS on two is an absolute reality. With better blades, maybe DFS on one. I am really liking this razor much better than before. No issues 12 hours later. Skincare from soap still ok, AS still keeping me interested. Happy Wednesday!
We're about the same age, reminds me when I went on a field trip to a startup company, Apple Computers. Interesting things happened on that trip.
01/21 – Day 21 of the 30 Day Rule - Shave #18 with the Weishi Objective: Survive a month using low end entry level products. Growth: 1 day Prep: Shower; Corn Huskers Lotion Lather: Arko – Face lathered Brush: Escali Badger Razor: Weishi 9306/Microtouch One Blade: Derby Extra (2) Post: Alum; Dove Men’s Sensitive AS Balm Today’s Results: Much better shave today. No weepers or irritation. The state of the shave is strong.
Does it mean we're old when we start reminiscing about those days? Or does the fact we can remember them mean we're still young?
Shave 13 of 30 day BSG Shower - Hot Shower Prep - Warm Water Splash Razor - Parker 99R Blade - Wilkinson Swords Classic Brush - Parker Rosewood Boar Brush Soap - Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Soap Post - Cold Water Rinse/Crystal Deodorant/Lots and lots of Styptic/Real Shaving Co. Post Shave Soothing Balm Well. Did 2 full passes this evening. I have become very confident with the Parker 99R. To the point of overconfidence. Yep!!! Wearing the crimson mask tonight!!! I was in a bit of a rush this evening after my shower. Went to get the top whiskers by my nostril and in overconfidence and lack of attention put a good size laceration on the edge of my nostril. Yup! I did it. Learned something too! Always respect the razor!!! or you too shall wear the crimson mask!!!!
Pity that Dusty did not learn the proper methods of shaving prep, but the "Funky Like A Monkey Tour" took up a lot of his time back then. You are learning a better way and setbacks do happen from time to time, but repeated issues as you mention can earn you the name "Nick Nostril" so relax but be vigilant with your shaves!
Plans for January 22, 2015 On day 21 of my 30-day journey, I plan to use my Mongoose loaded with a Feather Pro blade and my Kent BK4 brush. Thanks to all my friends for sharing their photograpy talents and learnings in this month's SOTD posts!
Getting some great shaves by switching up nothing! The only variation I have at this stage is whether I shave before or after I shower - the shaves are working out well either way. Every time I see a picture of one of those Mongoose razors I feel like I need to add one to my arsenal..... The glitter baby probably comes in handy sometimes too.
Thanks! I can't justify the investment, but it has been a fun razor to use! The shaves are so close that they'll make you look like glitter baby too!
Day 18 - Thirty Days with Merkur 34c (Jan 1-Feb 4 [No shave on Saturdays]) BSG 1-21-2015 Hot Shower and Prep - Nivea Men Sensitive Skin Face Wash Razor Merkur 34c Blade Astra SP (6) Brush - Plisson Synthetic Lather - Proraso Green Post - Warm water rinse, Maggard Razor Alum, wait 30 seconds then cool water rinse, Neutrogena Razor Defense Post Shave Lotion Three passes but a poor shave. - Messed up on my second pass - forgot what direction I was supposed to go in. Day 19 of 30 30 DAY RULE with a Slim J2 Gillette Slim Adjustable Kroger Israeli Personna VDH Kit Badger TSD Lanolin Shave Stick - Barber Shoppe Scent Today's Great Cheap AS™ is Pinaud Clubman! Gonna check out setting nine some more! So far so good! Lab report later! I am seriously behind on TSD reading today! Lol...
Day 22 my 30-day focus razor: Ever Ready 1924 SE blade: Personna GEM teflon coated (3) brush: Frank Shaving badger soap: Cella finish: HolyRollah's awesome DIY balm >here< Great setup. Mediocre BBS(rf). <sigh> I was very distracted during this shave. I should have stepped out of the batter's box — at least until my mind was in the game. No real damage but once again with the light, widespread burn. I even missed BBS on a smallish spot that isn't even in one of the trouble zones! Good grief! What's next... texting and driving? Wait! Here's a quick theory I just made up: by switching razors, the slight changes in technique require you to pay more attention to your shave. Therefore, frequent rotation leads to better shaves. I should drop out of this 30 day focus! Yeah... it's real weak. I'll just go with the more likely cause: stupidity. Hopefully, it isn't permanent.
SOTD January 22, 2015 Prep: Hot shower. Axe Shield Face Wash Razor: RazoRock Stealth Slant Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux Brush: L'Occitane Plisson Lather: Tiki Soap Citrus Mint Blast Post: Alum.Thayers Lavender WH. Aftershave: Nivea Energy. Nivea 2 In 1 Artic Freeze Balm First time I've used Citrus Mint Blast, orange, lemon, peppermint with a hint of menthnol. Fantastic! Great post shave skincare. Ripira PL sharp and smooth. Nivea 2 in 1 artic freeze balm is very nice. This is my 27th consecutive shave with the RRSS, Im noticing that with the really great soaps I've been using, teamed with the RRSS Ive been doing 4-5 passes, with zero irration. I do need to reduce it back to 3. My head shave from yesterday went great! The wife likes it. My daughter likes it. I like it. Gives me more to shave Go out and get it!
1/22/2015 30 Day - Shave # 22 Prep - Hot Shower Razor - Mongoose Satin B2 Blade - Kai Mild (4) Brush - Rubberset 400 with WSP HMW Lather - Soap Commander Confidence Post - Witch Hazel and CC Sandalwood AS On,.day 22 of 30 trying to learn the Mongoose razor, I switched my routine up. Instead of the my normal 3 pass shave, WTG, XTG and ATG, I decided to try again for a 2 pass shave. The first pass was ATG using very short strokes. No irritation but did get a couple of weepers on this pass. I finished up with the second pass XTG and then some touch ups around my chin. Overall a very good shave, not BBS but I sure scared the baby.
1/22/15 - #30DayChallenge reset #15 Prep: hot shower and Cornhusker's Lotion Lather: Klar Kabinett Brush: Vie-Long 13061M Razor: Weber PH Blade: Voskhod (4) Post: Ogallala Bay Rum Easy 2 pass shave. Great prep resulted in a smooth shave. I was not convinced that Cornhusker's Lotion was vital to my shave, but it seems to be.
