As planned, I am using the Stirling Bay Rum the rest of this week. It didn't bloom as I expected it to from the water I drizzled on it before my shower, but I was surprised to get three full passes worth of very good lather from it this AM, even with my cheap, shedding boar. I caught one minuscule weeper on the ATG pass, but otherwise I got a very comfortable BBS shave, and my face feels very good from the skincare of the Stirling + Clubman.
28 Jan 2015 Woolfat Wednesday Soap - MWF Brush - LOccitane Plisson Synthetic Razor - Merkur 34C Blade - Blue Diamond Super Max Shave prep started great with the Plisson doing this to MWF Another new blade tryout and for me in the 34c not a good combination, tugging with first stroke which shocked me due to MWF being for me, the more protective and slickest soap I have. Completed 3 passes for an acceptable shave, but not what I expect from a new blade. To me it performed like the Gillette Black on day 4. Will try it in my Superspeed tomorrow and see what happens.

SoTD for Wednesday, January 28, or SINGLEMANIA! Treet bakelite; French shave edition Pre- Clove Balsam PSO Soap- La Pere Lucien, Vetiver Bourbon Brush- vintage Baja w/ new 20/50 boar knot Razor- Treet 1912 w/ oxblood bakelite handle Blade- vintage Gem Super Stainless (x3) Rinse-Osage Aftershave- Pinaud Vegetal Lotion- Kiehl's Hair- Pinaud eau de Quinine I think that I am approaching the end of SINGLEMANIA. So I decided to use the razor that started this whole thing with, but never posted because the pics were awful. The razor is a Treet 1912 head on a Gem Jr style bakelite handle. A couple things make the Treet different from the Gem, the most obvious being the great color. In the interest of full disclosure, I love this particular deep red color. I strive to own things that are this color, so when I saw this, I had to own it. I had never really paid much attention to the chubby handled Gems before that. Now I have about a dozen under different brands and in a few colors and combinations. But this one is still my fave. The second difference, is the actual head of the razor itself. It is more than a rebranded Gem. The Treet has a safety bar rather than the closed comb of the Gem. And behind the bar, there are large openings, like a Clog Pruf. Yes, you heard right, a Clog Pruf 1912. It makes for a very good razor. And coupled with the vintage Super Stainless blade, now on its third go round, today was an excellent shave. 2 passes face, 3 passes neck, for a smooooth bbs. Have I mentioned how much I love the Super Stainless? The soap, yet again, is La Pere Lucien. I can't get enough of this stuff. I am officially a French soap convert. I am seriously debating talking the MdC plunge. People say it's better than LPL... the thought actually scares me. I like LPL so much, something better might burn out my pleasure center. Then I'll end up homeless, panhandling, and forever chasing the perfect soap... I don't know if I am ready for that yet. But it is tempting, so tempting. Following the French soap are a couple classics born in France long ago. Eau de Quinine hair tonic. It is good, but this isn't really the place to discuss it. I just wanted to throw in a mention for the sake of my theme. Next up is Pinaud Vegetal. Created for Hungarian cavalry under Napoleon III, it is a very strong powdery floral scent. After all the hype and insults, I was shocked how mild it smelled in the bottle. After I doused myself in some, I was surprised how strong it was. I had a few minutes where I thought that I had made a terrible mistake. But on the dry down, the potency recedes, and it becomes quite pleasant. And now, several hours later, I can still smell it if I try, but it is subtle. I like the stuff. A lot. I wish it lasted a bit longer, so I will have to experiment a bit to get the most out of it. But I guess I am one of the chosen now. Vegetal 4 life!
First shave with Rapira Swedish, out of all the Russian blades this is my least favourite. It's not that this is a bad blade is just because the other blades have been so good. This is only the first day so I'll see how it goes over the next few days. Razor - Pils DE Brush - L'occitane Plisson Synthetic Lather - Martin De Candre fougere Blade - Rapira Swedish steel Aftershave - Williams Ice blue
My first shave with the Merkur and the Pinaud BR today. Merkur did great but I shave very day so there wasnt a forest for it to chop down. 2 passes, pretty good shave for a work day. Up to this point, Lucky Tiger was the only bay rum I had tried. The Clubman Pinaud is much stronger and way more cloves but I like it. I will be cutting it with witch hazel like I do the classic, I think. Fine by me though, makes it last even longer.
