My first shave with the Merkur and the Pinaud BR today. Merkur did great but I shave very day so there wasnt a forest for it to chop down. 2 passes, pretty good shave for a work day. Up to this point, Lucky Tiger was the only bay rum I had tried. The Clubman Pinaud is much stronger and way more cloves but I like it. I will be cutting it with witch hazel like I do the classic, I think. Fine by me though, makes it last even longer. Prep: Warm shower and St Ives oatmeal face wash (not pictured) Preshave: no product Soap/Cream: Razorock XXX Brush: L’Occitane Plisson synthetic Razor: Merkur 39c Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge Post shave: Cold water rinse, Alum stick, Pinaud Clubman Bay Rum AS...and more cold water
Wednesday's Shave Prep: Hot shower w/ Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap Music: Mississippi Delta Blues mix Lather: Arko Brush: Omega 13522 Razor: '46-'50 Gillette Heavy Gold Tech Blade: Gillette Silver Blue Post: Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Balm, Pinaud Clubman Excellent shave today. Got some blades in the last couple days, thought about tossing them all in a hat and pulling one out, then I remembered that the store brand Israeli Personnas I grabbed the other day aren't wrapped so thought better of that. Been wanting to try the Silver Blues for a while so that's what I grabbed. Nice and smooth blade, although it did seem to tug a few times. Probably just lost my angle for a sec or something. Had a nice, irritation free DFS and had to go and ruin it by splashing alcohol based AS on it. I love Clubman but I think I'm going to have to use it as a scent rather than an AS. Alcohol AS seems to turn my face quite red.

Thursday morning's shaving plans: Nivea Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Dorco day 3 Palmolive Shaving Stick Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer Musgo Real Classic AS Pour Un Homme de Caron EdT Thank goodness I have plenty of Palmolive sticks in reserve because the one I'm using now will soon be finished. I'm also relieved that this wonderful soap has not been discontinued altogether as I had previously thought. I love the scent, rich lather, and great post-shave care it gives me every time I use it. The Musgo Classic aftershave has an awesome scent and feels so soothing whenever I slap it on, so I shouldn't neglect it. The Dorco blade in my Super Speed is behaving itself so far, but one wrong move and it'll get scrapped. Hopefully I'll get another terrific shave like the one I got today.
A thrifty shave but an excellent one! The Culmak soap smells to me a bit like the DR Harris Arlington cream I have; it was cheap from the local pharmacy and lathers brilliantly. The razor was also cheap and now a few manufacturing issues have been corrected it shaves very well. The Kent synthetic brush is a budget brush too and to finish I used Brut aftershave which I picked up on offer at a supermarket!
Thursday's Nivea Men's Face Wash ARKO Stick Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip Badger Eversharp Schick I-1 NOS Gillette Platinum Plus Injector Blade CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Rose Petal WH Aqua Velva The ARKO Stick Shaving Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip Badger Brush. Two passes with my Eversharp Schick I-1 and a NOS Gillette Platinum Plus Injector Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal Petal WH and then Aqua Velva after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
SOTD: Wed. 1/28/15 RAZOR: 1965 Slim (7 XTG, 4 WTG) BLADE: Rapira Lux Platinum BRUSH: WD Silvertip (butterscotch handle - looks like a Cleveland Browns handle!) SOAP: Maggard Limes & Bergamot AS: Barbasol Pacific Rush Haven't been able to post anything lately except "one-liners". I've been watching and commenting on posts, but no time to post myself (It's tax time and I'm having too much fun! ). So, after a couple of weeks using my OC razors, I decided to move up a few decades and start rotating through my adjustables. Funny, but I've never really liked a Slim or my SA's, but I keep coming back to them. Don't know if it's the weight or handle size or what. I love my Fat Boy and it's not that different, is it? I just don't seem to get a nice, clean shave. Oh well, it called to me again so I'll keep trying. I want to like them. Also still "testing" the Rapira blade. Switched out to an Astra SP for one blade (4 shaves), just to compare. The Astra is always sharp and is a good shave, but I almost always have a few weepers or some irritation. The Rapira leaves no marks, but doesn't seem as sharp. Also finally am trying to get the hang of an alum block. Got a cheap one from Maggard. I always disliked the feel afterwards, but now I thoroughly rinse it off before my AS. Seems to be working.
January 28 (Day 27) Pre: Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser Razor: Mongoose Blade: Feather Professional (day 3) Brush: Kent BK4 silvertip Lather: Stirling Naked and Smooth soap & glycerin Shave: Two-pass plus touch-ups Post: Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, and unrefined shea butter This 30-day adventure has allowed me to learn how to get consistently great shaves with no nicks or irritation using this set-up. I have incorporated alum back into my post-shave routine, and I'm amazed at the difference it makes in skin feel and in eliminating razor bumps. I look forward to using a new set up beginning next Monday. I'm returning to my Feather Artist Club razor loaded with a Feather Pro blade. My last adventure with this razor proved to be quite a challenge. I'm hoping it will go better this time, as I now have a few months of additional experience. This will be my first go with a two-band silvertip brush. I've heard great things about these brushes, and I'm about to find out for myself! I hope you all had a great day and a fine shave!
The Black Ninja or Polsilver Super Iridium tend to be my favorite blades in aggressive razors and Feather blades are better for me in mild razors.
Thanks to you too. I don't know much, but I know what I like. And I like that Mongoose. I like the modern, minimalist look to it. But I go in for the "old school" stuff, too. A modern Standard razor would look just fine next to my New Standard...LOL.
