For a little while, I've been watching Wet Shave Obsession (WSO) soaps from a distance taking note of what others review and what initial reactions were. Jim, the owner, is an artisan vendor here at TSD and posts regularly. His soap pucks are true hard soaps. They're not soft soaps like Stirling and they're definitely not croaps like Italian soaps. Jim's soaps are hand milled and produce a hard puck, but not hard in the way of a triple-milled soap like Harris. It's similar to a hard bath soap. In fact, if you wet the soap and roll it around in your hands, it will lather. I ordered the Baywood (Bay Rum&Sandalwood) and Zaro (Fougure). Ease of lathering: 10/10--Very easy to make lather. I rubbed the puck on my face and lathered with a badger brush as weel and both produced LOTS of lather. Longevity of lather: 9/10--Very stable more than enough for 3 passes Performance during the Shave: 9/10 -- Slick, thick and cushiony. One way to test this is after completing a pass, wet your face slightly and see how slick it is from the soap residue. You should be able to make another pass without re-lathering your face. General skin care: 9/10-- Rinses very clean and leaves the face feeling great post shave. Scent: 9/10--Light and not over-powering. Very pleasing. Price: 8/10--$12.95 for a 5.4 oz bar of soap! Not your average 4 oz. puck of soap so the price is justified. Would I buy again: 10/10-- Yes. Yes, I would. Ingredients: Organic Filtered Cocos Nucifera Oil, Organic Filtered Dende Oil, Organic Filtered Safflower Oil, Organic Filtered Tallow Based Distilled Glycerin, Triple Filtered Purified Water, Sodium and Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Sorbitol, Organic Non GMO Soya Lecithin, Organic Filtered Shea Butter, Vegetable Protein Isolates, Bentonite or Kaolin Clay, Organic Essential Oils, Fragrance Oil, Natural coloring.
I have been debating one of his soaps(Cucumber & Melon). I guess I will have to order one now. Great review, Cheers.
Great, another one to put on the list. Thanks for the review. Your test for performance is something I always check for, too. Can't abide a soap that leaves my skin dry and rubbery after a pass.
Just received a puck tonight and wow! What a great lathering soap that has great moisturizing properties as well! Now, I just need to help Jim dial it in with adhesive labels and he will be golden! lol
LOL.... from my latest blog,"We have had labeling issues here and there. These are all being resolved. It is time to step up our game even further when it comes to product offerings, packaging and so on." In all seriousness I never thought something as simple as labeling could turn into such a thorn in the side! 6 diff samples all with supposed permanent adhesive and I think we finally have it nailed down! Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. Very grateful and appreciative.
I thought I'd do an add on to CyanideMetal's review and the quote above sums up my feelings too. I picked up a puck of WSO White Lightning and find it to be an excellent soap. It's lightly scented and lightly mentholated. I pick up a bit of eucalyptus a little more mint and only a touch of vanilla mostly post shave. It lathers easily and provides good protection during the shave and leaves my skin feeling great post shave. I do think CyanideMetal is spot on in his review. Good stuff, IMO. I should add the variety I picked up is the "ultimate skin care line" of soap.
Excellent review. I've been shaving with Zaro the last couple of days. This is a top shelf product. The moisturizing factor is incredible. I've used a best badger, horse and boar brush, it explodes off the puck. A must have! Jim's customer service is exceptional, he's a vendor that truly listens to his customers.
Thank You Gentlemen for the kind words and for the reviews! I sincerely appreciate your patronage and it is an honor that you have incorporated WSO Products as a part of your wetshaving experience. Enjoy Your Shaves! Regards, Jim ps- A special thanks to RaZorBurn123- Your honest input has made a huge difference in my ability to better serve my customers. Much appreciated and it will not be forgotten!
That's what we're here for.......to enable, lol. Ryan, I can't imagine you wouldn't like it from a performance perspective, it's just a matter of if you can find a scent that appeals to you (but like everything else, ymmv).
I agree. When I evaluate soap, performace comes first. As long as it doesn't smell like poop, I can shave with it if it performs well.
A quick pic from this mornings shave. Sorry, it's not the best. I'll add, my shaves have been nickless.
Well I guess I am going to try some soon. I think I have enough Soap here that I am going to have to put together a PIF and gift some of it away to the homeless shelter in San Yaskidrow.
It sure would be nice if we knew what was going on with Jim aka Wso. He has not been on here in months or updated the Wso site and the Etsy store is not even around anymore. I hope he is alright.
