  3. Sunday Night's Shave

    Prep: Lather and hot towel
    Music: Mississippi Delta Blues mix
    Lather: Arko
    Brush: Omega 13522
Razor: '46 - '50 Gillette Heavy Gold Tech
    Blade: Voskhod
Post: Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Balm

With the impending snow storm tonight and in the morning, I went with a BBS: Before Bed Shave. 0430 is early enough to be getting up, don't want to make it 0330 to shave and make it to work on time. First time with a Voskhod and WOW that's a smooth blade. 3 passes and a touch up to a DFS+, damn near BBS. Certainly the best shave I've had yet, and negligible irritation. Couple small weepers that went away with the rinse. We'll have to see what happens on Tuesday morning but I think Voskhod goes on the short list.
  4. SOTD Feb 8th:
I decided to try going shave free for a few days; I got five days into it and realized how therapeutic shaving is for me. Aaand I'm back.
Prep: Proraso Green preshave soap and a little Vaseline
    Brush: Omega 10066 Boar
Soap: Mike's Natural Rose & Cedarwood w/ one drop of Wintergreen EO added
    Blade: Wade & Butcher 4/8
Post: Home-mix aftershave (Osage Rub, witch hazel, glycerin, and aloe) and a little Vaseline.

I've been using my new Muhle HJM for the last couple weeks, but going back to my Omega 10066 boar was great; broken in, it has a great balance of backbone, softness, light thready/scratchiness, and splay. Best part is, you can find it at Shopper's for $12-15.
Mike's is always a winner for me, even though the Rose scent is a bit sweet for me. The Wintergreen EO rounds it out nicely though.

  11. Yesterday was:
Prep: Hot shower, Nivea Sensitive skin face wash, Stirling Bay Rum soap
    Brush: AOS cheapie Badger
Razor: Ikon 102 Slant w/ Travel Handle
    Blade: Personna Blue
    Soap: Catie's Bubbles LPV
Post: Thayers Alcohol free unscented, Nivea sensitive balm, Fine Platinum

First shave with the Ikon. Man that thing mows down some thick growth! Still had irritation on my neck, but better than with the Muhle, and only one weeper.Got to work on my technique for sure, and get better with my beard map.

Apparently, the area that keeps giving me issues is like a growth vortex. Got stuff growing in all directions there. Thanks again to everyone that made suggestions on how to better the shave on the thread I posted.
