Tuesday's Shave Prep: Hot shower w/ Grandpa's Pine Tar Lather: Arko Brush: Omega Razor: '46-'50 Gillette Heavy Gold Tech Blade: Voskhod Post: Witch Hazel, Nivea Sensitive Balm Scent: Pinaud Clubman My shaves are pretty boring lately, trying to zero in on blades. I'm not sure what to think of Voskhod in the Tech. It's great for buffing around my chin, but not so good for ATG on my neck. Great shave though.

Tyr's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood stick Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Asco SS: Red (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Captain's Choice Cat o' Nine Tails AS splash Cologne: Velvet Mood by Maison Francis Kurkdjian I had set the Ogallala shave stick aside for quite a while, having been unable to make what I considered good lather with it in repeated attempts. For the remainder of this week, I'll be using it exclusively, so that I can either figure the darned thing out, or recognize that I should PIF it to someone who enjoys their product line. Today's lather was better with it than I remembered, but still not as wet I generally want. . . that said, the third pass - when I'd pulled the 'worked-in' lather from the brush and then used that - was very good, making me believe I simply need a lot more water in the building process. Other than that, the shave was very good, with BBS results and nice post-shave feel.
The North is a bit of a departure from the other Captain's Choice offerings. When I smell it out of the bottle, all I get is very strong Juniper and I can't say that it is particularly pleasing. However, when you apply it something magical happens and the Juniper really mellows out and blends in with a very nice woodsy, spicy, pine/fir scent that seem to work quite well together. It's not terribly long-lasting, but I get subtle hints of it throughout the day. I really like it. For me, the North performs every bit as well as the original Bay Rum or CoNT. The skincare qualities are outstanding, leaving my face feeling smooth, toned and moisturized (even in the harsh Northeast winters). I also very much like the Lime and Sandalwood offerings, both of which perform as well as the North and Bay Rum's. For my face, it's a win-win all the way around.

02/10/15 February Focus on Blades Prep – MR GLO Razor - Mongoose Satin B2 Blade – Kai Sharp (3) Brush – RV with Shavemac Finest Lather – Captain’s Choice Sandalwood Test Soap Post - Witch Hazel and Captain’s Choice Sandalwood AS Very nice 3 pass shave this morning. Not BBS but close enough to scare the baby I had emailed Captain's Choice to test a new sandalwood soap he his developing. The soap proved very easy to lather and proved to be very slick and provided good cushion. The scent of the soap was a perfect pairing with his sandalwood aftershave.
