They all look great. Now its got me thinking. One of my razors was my grandpa's. How awsome would it be to have it restored and use it another lifetime! Maybe pass it down to one of my own grandsons one day.
See, one of the razors that I will never have replated is my birth-year-razor..I kinda like that it's showing some age and not looking perfect...kinda like..uh...me As long as it's mechanically sound I'll let it age. Now, I do have some razors that look 'less visually appealing than they could' [read: pretty bad] - that I don't have any sentimental values/ties to that are very likely candidates for a spin in the re-plate chair.
For who does the "Best" work I was sort of hoping that pictures and stories in this thread could become part in helping with determining that. However we all value different things so there will be somewhat of a YMMV-factor for that as well I'm sure.
This is my favorite razor - my replated GEM lather-catcher with the handle made by Bob Smith (Cooncat Bob) at Bob's Razor Works just before his untimely death.
I have looked around after seeing the post about herm2502's beautiful black and white rhodium fatboy and have seen some amazing work done by both shops and a few others. The prices at razor emporium are slightly cheaper, but Razorplate does work with black rhodium. I personally love the black rhodium and how it looks, so thats where i would go! I think my slim would look sexy in all black rhodium....
That's #2 on my replate list, after my Ranger. It'd be great if Chris ever did a twofer discount but he's more than worth full price.
Go for it! If you had an old car you might think of restoring it. This is no different except it's alot cheaper!
Thank you. I found it in an antique mall in Hendersonville, NC, when we were visiting the area before we bought our home up here. I liked it so much I had it plated. It is probably my favorite vintage razor.
From what I have seen both Razor Plate and Razor Emporium do good work. I am very pleased with how both razors Razor Emporium did for me turned out. Herm's Fatboy looks great though. Razor Emporium's turnaround was a bit quicker than they quoted and they also took care of a few mechanical issues with one of the razors.
I really like Nick Brown @ Sport Shaving. He is out of town for a little while but his turnaround is anywhere from 7-10 days. I plan on sending him my Fatboy in a few weeks.
