Im a college student and I just recently started. However the brush I'm using is utter crap and just isn't cutting it. Due to the ridiculous price of higher education I am unable to spend much money on a new brush. Any ideas for low cost brushes that would work?
I would recommend looking at Omega brushes. They are good brushes for decent prices. ETA - HolyRollah beat me to it...
small differences, in the grand scheme of things. the different bristle types handle water differently and feel different on your face.
The 48 is a nice brush, but very large. I am fond of the mid sized Omega brushes like the 66. Another option is something like the Semogue 1305 which can normally br found for less than $20. I would much rather have a nice boar than an inexpensive badger. There is a much nicer face feel once broken in.
That is so true. Here is a list of Omega brushes from an excellent supplier. http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/ombolaseinno.html
For a relatively inexpensive Silvertip badger try FS or Frank Shaving on eBay. You can sometimes get the sellers from China to accept a pretty low best offer. I had a very nice 26mm I paid under $40 for
I like this brush. What's the difference between that and the professional that looks the same? I've never used an omega. Are they pretty good?
Same brush. No difference. Omegas are very good values. I have several of their boar brushes and a couple of omega badgers, plus one synthetic. Very reasonably priced; good performers. Made in Italy.
From my experience, Omega Boar brushes are good from the start but once broken in they are really a great boar brush.
I agree. I have both. I prefer the 48 for head shaves and the 66 for when I'm only shaving my face. I face lather, and the big brushes are a little awkward for that.
Omega boars are probably your best option, in my opinion. Unless you can splurge and go with a TGN or Whipped Dog one.
I'm really digging my Burma brush. It's made out of boar hair and only cost me $4.00 with free shipping from an eBay vendor. Also, the Turkish #6 horsehair (it's actually boar hair, they lied) is a good brush too. Both brushes I listed shed a little, but both turn out to be great brushes for a good price.
If price is an issue, then get omega an pick the knot size that you like. If you want to get a Badger brush with shipping included whippeddog 20 mm, 22mm, and 24 mm are $22.00 with a choice of handles. The choice is yours. Either omega or whippeddog will fill the bill.
I am very impressed with the quality of this http://m.ebay.com/itm/131275306803?nav=SEARCH brush which took a few weeks to arrive and is on the small side but lathers like a champ and has a nice feel. It is cheap and it may not last forever but it has never shed a fiber for me. For someone on a super tight budget it's one to consider
The Body Shop has a synthetic brush that might be worth looking at. Most malls in America have a Body Shop.
