New injector blades are hard to come by, and when you can find them, they are expensive. I found a source of blades in the form of mini shaper blades by Personna. They come in a dispenser of 20 blades for $7.94 with free shipping on Amazon. That is about $0.40 each. Compared to 7 for $6.99, that is an excellent price point. The donor dispenser does not have a key, so I have to transfer the blades to the recipient dispenser that has a key. Old recipient dispenser with key and key-less Personna donor dispenser. 1. Eject a new blade from the key-less dispenser. 2. You will need to depress the blade or the spring in the recipient dispenser. 3. Very carefully, insert the blade into the recipient dispenser. 4. Continue to guide the blade into the dispenser until it is all the way in. Be careful to keep the edge of the blade from rubbing against the side. Keep the back of the blade to the back. These Personna mini shaper blades are coated and provide a close comfortable shave.
I just wish I still had my Original Schick Injector Razor that I won from a Radio Station Promotion in 1965 or 1966. It was a promotion to send in a postcard the first 500 people would win a razor.(if I remember correctly) any way I for got all about it. I was with my Mom and Dad we were going to a Doctors appointment for my mother to a specialist (she was Diabetic, and they were trying to save her Leg from Amputation). Any way my Mom gave me this box from the Radio station in Salt Lake City UT. They were giving it away as a promotion because it was either a New type of Razor or the Schick was a new Sponsor for the All Night talk Show. By the way she never lost her leg. They cut a few Toes off and removed some bones in toes, but She went to her grave with both legs.
Excellent illustration of how it's done! I've transferred a bunch of Personna blades from their crappy plastic dispenser into much better all metal Schicks, and when transferring the blade from one razor to another. So far I haven't damaged any blades or cut myself, you just have to take your time and be careful.
It works great but it's why I switched to the lever action Hydro-Magic or one of the flip-open Schicks (E/F/G, one of those). I just load new blades by hand and don't worry about loading a metal dispenser or even keying open the head.
That will work, but you have to be very diligent and not get yourself cut. Handling those little blades can be hazardous. I have cut myself a few times when I wasn't as diligent as I should have been. Nothing serious, no blood, but I was angry with myself for letting myself get cut.
How do you hand load an HM? There are two tabs that lock into the slots on the blade to hold it in place when the razor is open, those should prevent the blade from sliding in.
Exactly right, gents. I knew someone would ask. I used a Dremel cutting wheel to remove them. Slit right through both retainer tabs and ground them down basically to nothing. It was a calculated risk but I'm happy to report there has been zero blade instability; blades lock in under the front tabs as always and the head clamps up as tight as always. With the razor closed, you wouldn't know the retainer isn't there anymore. Now your question may be, "So with the retainer gone, you can't open the razor and rinse it out without the blade falling out." True, but between that feature and being able to quickly hand-load my box full of loose orphaned blades, it's more than worth the tradeoff. And I ain't cut myself yet loading them.
