Off the bench: I just finished honing this Red Imp last night. I had taken it apart awhile ago for a thorough cleaning; then applied red enamel to the tang text (tang still has most of the original bluing) and reassembled it recently. Case Model#133 5/8 width with a square point. I've liked the smoothness of the Imps I've used previously and this one was also very comfy. I used the Escher finisher vs the Apache this time, just for variety. MdC Fougére soap applied with a badger brush. Smooooooth….
J A Henkels gold etched special ed inox Friodur # 72 - one of my best shavers WSP Tobacco - a good soap but not stellar by itself. Mixed with a nice crème it works better. The mahogany wsp is way better AS - LaToja splash - just love the stuff
Got this from ebay for $40 today, cleaned it up, honed it and did a test shave - nice shave. FW Engels special
I've had a few of those FW Engels roll through the shop. I founds them to be very nice shavers. I've sold 'em all so I'll be keeping an eye out for another. Hopefully I'll find one with the blade as nice as yours, Lou. Many I've had suffer from some hone wear or scale damage, such as this one which required some serious cleaning and blade work. Decent shaver, though.
This one had zero hone wear but was tarnished slightly and some along the edge but it did clean easily. When I set the bevel with the 1k Nainawa pro it did not seem to want to pop. Then while on the 4k it took and the 8k and 12k finished it before using the apache strata. What an edge I finally got. I learned a lot honing this one
I bet you were looking at a different one. This one was listed as buy it now for $31 and I bought it almost as soon as it listed. This was his photo
