Six Month Commitment

I also went overboard since I started wet shaving in August last year and began a slowdown during the holidays and have just ordered soaps, creams and blades (funny how I have rationalized these purchases).Thought I'd get serious this year and buy just one good razor a month rather than an impulse buy every time I'm on the bay or in antique shops. When I joined TSD one of my welcoming messages said "welcome to the best group of enablers on the web", while this is humorous it is also true . As a newbie reading about all the great gear other members have and the cool products that are available makes it hard to decide what to focus on . Concentrate on technique ? Take the thirty day challenge ?Collect only Superspeeds? I guess it comes down to self discipline as I really enjoy the wet shaving community for it's welcoming and knowledgeable members, the informative and generous spirited discussions , heart felt show and tells and the discovery of new and unique stuff. Not sure why wet shaving has become an obsession , I would like to temper my impulses while staying an active member of this fascinating community , this is my six month commitment

I have literally left 5 plus online baskets unordered this weekend. But one did sneak through as it was a travel set. I retract my commitment as I know I'll be buying a new ikon next week. No shame

Well, that didn't last very long.

At least I opted for samples of some things and not full sized. As far as hardware goes though, I buy as often as a deal is to be had.

I admire you for making such a difficult commitment @LookingGlass. :happy088: The only thing that keeps me from going "NUTS" buying shaving equipment is a "SUBSTANTIAL" lack of money..:happy097:

Just wanted to drop in and say I'm holding up strong. No deviations from the plan so far. Actually it's been a breeze. Building a shelf to take my mind of buying stuff.

I didn't buy any new shaving stuff for over a year.... except some vintage razors, but not anything else. I have enough blades soap cream aftershave preshave brushes to last for 2-3 years I think.

What can I say -- still going strong here. Have finished a tube of Proraso green cream, Nivea Sensitive Balm and am now making my way through the Proraso white soap.

When this is over I think I'll revert to only getting new soaps/creams when I've finished an old one. Color me crazy, but it feels good.

At least we're not standing on the street and dealing (I always told my mother that when she didn't like a particular interest of mine.. haha). :) Can't argue against that!

If the argument is that "hey, it's better than selling crack on the street" one cooooooulllld argue that that the point is already lost ;-)

    SDK it's his fault

That seemed to just happen naturally for me last year, and it was a good thing. Late April the kids start baseball, and we then move right into the beach, scuba and camping portion of the year. I am also very active through the fall and holiday seasons. I spent about 4 months buying, and 8 months using it all last year.

This year seems to be following the same pattern. The main difference is that I came back to the market much more educated and focused on what I want to try.

Buying too much all year round makes it very hard to get the most out of what you do have....

I'm considering whether or not to get out of wet shaving, so I've placed myself on a buying moratorium. (Not counting the great deal I got last week on a '69 Black Handle SS....) I just can't get a presentable shave on my neck or jawline, so I may have to go back to a cartridge razor. Even if I stick with it, I'm going to get rid of some of the stuff I don't use ... several SE's, and I'm going to offer a nice PIF in March for those considering shaving with a straight. (Something that just doesn't work for me.)

Kids, beach, scuba, and camping? I want your life. (Even if it is your fault your wife cut her legs up. ;))

It has happened. From safety razors to straights and I don't know how many soaps and creams. Didn't make it. Maybe next time?
