Thanks Chris. This one seems to be disappearing more like deli meat. One slice at a time It was already about 75% gone and very faded from the switch to wet shaving last year. It appears that the OC/feather blade combo is just going to finish the job...
I really love the idea of the focus month, thanks for this opportunity. I just passed my two-year anniversary of starting wet-shaving and I'm still loving this lifestyle! My focus plan for March My focus will be the daily one-pass shave using my most aggressive Schick Injector, the E2 model. The soups/creams used are Arko, Tabac, Mitchell's Wool Fat, CO Bigelow and Ingrams. I will only use one brush for this focus, the Semogue 1305 boar bristle brush. I already started this at the end of February and it is a revelation that it works for my situation. I have a goatee, sensitive skin and a light beard on the cheeks. I'm discovering the one-pass is enough if I use an aggressive razor, but to make sure I want to take time to focus on this technique. Since starting this, my face feels fantastic. I notice it works for the daily shave. I like having good stubble to cut before each shave. Aces!
Welcome aboard the 30 day focus Leo. I have been enjoying this to the point where I am already planning what I want to do in April!
03/03 - Day 3 dialing in the Slim: I lowered the dial on the Slim today and paired it with a fresh Voshkod. The result was very smooth and comfortable with no irritation or alum burn. A DFS for sure. The Williams lather was super slick but dried out quickly. First use of the Omega 49 and I already prefer it to the SOC. The fibers seem thinner but better quality somehow. Growth: 1 day Prep: Show; Corn Huskers Lotion Lather: Williams Mug Brush: Omega 49 Razor: 1964 Gillette Slim (3,1,1,5 for chin touchup) Blade: Voshkod (1) Post: Alum; Fine American AS
DAY 2 - COLD WATER MENTHOL MARCH! My goal today was to do a two pass shave and no clan up since I was running low on time. Prep: shower and Noxzema face wash Growth: 1 day Razor: Gillette Tech Blade: Yellow Gillette 7 O'clock Soap: TSD Stick - Subzero Passes: 2 - WTG, ATG - no clean up Post shave: TSD signature milk aftershave plus menthol Post shave: Stirling Post Shave balm - barbershop I got what I wanted this morning: confidence that I could get a great shave when time is short. 2 passes without the need for cleanup. Focused on angle and going a little slower. Dfs I'll say. These baby's finally cleared customs after nearly 8 weeks. Been doing this long enough now to not get tempted to switch over to "try them out." They're razors and they cut whiskers.
8 weeks in customs????? Wow. I have 100 Voskhods stuck somewhere between Moscow and here but no tracking info. The blades for my PIF cleared Russian customs in 3 minutes according to tracking, hit New York yesterday and are on their way to me today. Total shipping time may be a week or less. I feel for you.
March Focus- Be modern. Learn to use my Feather Artist Club razor. Any touch ups with a Maggard MR6B. March 3st, SOTD (Shave 2 of the focus) Two Day's growth Prep: Hot shower Razor Start: Feather Artist Club SS non-folding with Pro-Guard Blade (2nd shave on blade) Razor Finish: Maggard MR6 DE Blade: Derby Extra Super Stainless- Stropped 30 times per edge (2nd shave on blade) Soap: The Shave Den Barber Shoppe Scent Brush: Omega 1066 Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, styptic pencil (dang it) Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Barber Shoppe Splash Working from home today, so could drag my shave gear out to take a picture without my wife mocking me. First non-bathroom picture of my shave gear, its on a motorcycle seat I am working on. I also checked the mailbox before I shaved today, and I am glad I did. The Shave Den soaps and aftershave samples arrived. Had less time than usual for the shave today. Had to start a conference call, so tried to rush it. Good news is I wasn’t as afraid of the Feather AC today and was more confident in using it. Bad news is I wasn’t as afraid of the Feather AC today, and was more confident in using it. Did my first pass WTG, with one small nick on my chin. Decided to go to an ATG pass, since I never do XTG passes with a DE. Went well on my face, and the left side of my neck. Not so well on the right side of my neck. (I am right handed.) Did an ATG pass with the DE to clean up, but didn’t get the best shave. The alum bar made me say things I shouldn’t type on a public forum. Socially acceptable, BBS on the cheeks, but torn up on the neck, and a little rough. May skip the Feather AC on Thursday to give my neck a chance to heal. The Shave Den soap gave awesome lather. The Iced Aftershave splash is very mentholated. Me like.
I'm right there with you! I think I already have my idea and plan. That either makes me well organized or obsessed. I think I'll say organized. Maybe obsessively organized? Hmmmmmm.....
March 30 Day Rule - 3 March 2015 Another good one. Learning left handed shaving is a challenge...but hey, another skill learned. Hand is finally calming down after badly burning it in a bad kitchen mishap. I am trying to stay TSD caught up, but still slow going on the keys... Hope everyone had a great day!
March 2015 ... 30 day rule ... technique, technique, technique pre: n/a brush: EJ best badger medium lather: proraso green soap razor: EJ89lbl blade: post: alum block 03/01/15 ... blade1(1) well, i'm gonna go with the derby extras! as they came in pretty close to the astraSP and personna lab blue during february ... my first month of wet shaving to go along with my 30-day blade focus using a TSD blade sampler. an ok 2-pass shave today ... not much irritation, no nicks ... but i'm wondering if my technique if getting just good enough to be able to detect degrees of sharpness. i'm questioning the derby pick, and it's only the first day. i'll continue to give it a go, but i may have to reevaluate the post-march2015 inventory of derby in my den. onward ... 03/03/15... blade1(2) i did my first 3-pass today. the third was more of an opposite XTG vs a true ATG ... still three lathers and three passes though. a few hours later, WOW!, i have one smooth face and neck! just after my shave, though, i wondered if it was really worth it. only one chin scrape and one tiny side-neck nick ... both on the third pass and sealed with a cold rinse ... but, man, major irritation at the bottom of the neck. after a cold rinse, the alum block lit me up! part of it could be simply the third pass of the blade over the skin. part of it, too, i'm sure, is that this was only the first or second time i've went that particular direction (opposite normal XTG). onward ...
March 4 Plans Stirling Sheep Soap Merkur 37C Slant Bar Feather blade (day 2) Ever-Ready C40 Boar Stirling Naked and Smooth soap & D.R. Harris Almond cream Two passes Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, & unrefined shea butter Have a great Wednesday. I plan to celebrate National Grammar Day with a fine shave! Ain't nuthin' better'n that!
Keep trying on the neck. Coming from cartriges the lower neck was the easiest place for me to have the wrong angle and use too much pressure.
