New member, active duty stationed in NY, but originally from RI. I have been interested in wet shaving for a few years, but after reading a post on a local firearms forum decided to try it. Did a lot of reading and had my first wet shave last Thursday. I nicked myself within the first inch of shaving, too much pressure. Second day Friday am, a little cut on the chin, I missed a spot and tried to get it before re lathering. Skipped Saturday, then the rest of this week no issues! Moved up to three passes today without issue. I know by posting this I will be a bloody mess tomorrow a.m. I wanted to thank the site and all who contribute for pretty good first week for me.
That's awesome! Thank you for your service, by the way. Glad to welcome you to the forum. This is the best shaving forum on the 'net! Just ask if you have any questions... Someone will know the answer here!
Welcome aboard & thank you for serving. Can you please tell us what razor and blades you use? This can help us to teach you to improve your shave.
A warm welcome to you from North Texas. You might want to take a look at some of the references contained in my signature line below for discussions of the 30 Day systems and more on hardware. With that being said ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Sara-S, I am using a merkur futur, feather blades, trumper almond shaving cream, a cheap $8 brush and a bowl I picked up at a local goodwill, that SWMBO approved of. No pre shave, after shave or oil yet. I picked up the razor used, started with it on 1, went to 1.5 today. I need to check with my mom to see if my dads old one is still around. (Doubt it) From what I remember I think it was a Gillette slim or fat boy.
Thom, thanks for giving us some details. You are using good stuff, though beginning DE shavers sometimes find Feather blades difficult. Personally, I love them but A)not everyone does and B) I tried them after I had been using a DE razor for a while. I recommend that you get a sampler pack f different brands, if you haven't already done so. Also, give the pre-shave oil a try. Again, not everyone finds them useful, but some do. (Hubby & I love them). There is only one way to see if you will like them, of course. If you got to our Tutorial forum, you will find a thread about how to make them easily and cheaply.
Welcome Thom! The best thing about "learning" to shave in the traditional ways is that we get to practice pretty much on a daily basis. Keep plugging away and you will do fine! Thanks for joining us and thank you for protecting us!
Hi! Welcome from a fellow vet - retired Air Force 1980-2000, AND fellow New Englandah - born in Van Buren, Maine. Thanks for serving!!
Glad that you landed here at TSD. Join us on The Shave of the Day thread. It is fun, and you will see all kinds of products. And please Mark YOUR location on the TSD map - instructions here.
Welcome aboard. BTW, since you are from New England, my name is pronounced "MAHK". This is because of the New England rule that the letter "R", if in the middle of a word is pronounced as an "H". In other words, the written "R" is silent.
