I know some of you guys are doing some 30 day rules, or modified versions for yourselves. I was curious if there is any benefit to sticking with the same software for an entire 30 days?

I've been wet shaving since June, and I feel like I can get good lather from any of my 7 or 8 soaps (I'm down to my last bit of cream, probably only about 4 shaves left). Should I keep rotating as I feel like it, or is there a benefit to finishing one before moving on? If so, should I start with my largest stock (30 day rule) or smallest (3017)?

In my 9 months I've acquired and experimented with 6 DE razors and 2 SE razors. I also have an SE and a straight that I haven't tried yet. I've spent weeks at a time with 4 of my 6 DE razors. I have a large sampling of blades that I've been trying out with each of those 4 razors, and my first 100 pack of blades was Astra SP. I plan to spend the next month or two getting to know my other razors, including my new straight razor, so I wondered if keeping the soap and blade consistent across those variables would make any difference to my evaluation.

I use one at a time until it is done. When not used every day, there were many soap that I thought were good enough. When used every day from start to finish, many mediocre soaps were culled. Also, it helps you realize how long your stash of soaps will last.

Thanks. I'm one of those OCD types who log my shaves, so the second point isn't as much of a benefit as the first for me.

Rotate through 40-something. I like the variety.
The only time I use the same soap more than twice in the same week is when I go on vacation. Even then I take two soaps to rotate!

I rotate through the lot, but I'll stick with one for a while if I'm enjoying it. I've done a number of consecutive MdC shave days for this reason...

I'm starting to get on route 3017. I've used my tube of Palmolive Menthol exclusively for over a month now.

Garrett- I am about a year and a half in, and also like to rotate for the variety.

I have also been partaking in the 30 day focus. It does help to really refine getting the most out of a particular soap, or category of soaps. Have fun, try new things, but don't be hesitant to stay with something that is giving you trouble. Case in point for me is open comb razors. I had to revisit these, and stick with them a bit longer, but now think I may be a convert.

Short story, do what makes you happy!

PS- I would need an "all of the above" choice to vote in this survey....

Ultimately I want to use them up before I open another, but I admit to shifting occasionally after 30+ days.

After I pushed the rock out of the way and crawled out, I had to look up 3017. It said it is a term most commonly used on shaving forums. Honestly, this is the first I have ever heard it.

I got a lot of soaps for christmas. I have been trying to use one a month to see what it's like. Luckily they've all been great soaps so I really enjoyed using them and wanted to use them every day. But I haven't used them strictly for 30 days straight. I just use what I feel like using, there's no real system involved. Just trying to have fun.

Soaps I mostly use one at a time. Creams I constantly rotate. Why? Because, little grasshopper. Because...

    3017:
Wet shavers with large stockpiles of soap who are (aggressively) using it up one puck/tub/stick/tube at a time. Some of them estimate they will run out in about [the year] 3017.

I'm in constant search for inspiration.
if a soap comes in puck form, it stays unopened until I have a mug for it, or some other suitable container.
if it comes in its own tub, tin, or bowl. it's fair game.
but I don't rotate through them, whim and inspiration rule.

Picking what soap to use in the morning is part of the fun for me. I'd hate to feel that I'm "locked in" to a certain soap when I have a bunch of options in front of me.

Now, if I really like a soap I could very well use it for a full week - but that's probably also still after I make a daily decision.
