Just a quick thread to say "Hello from the UK" to everyone on the forum... Like many , I am a long time wet shaver who has switched from using carts (Mach3) to mostly a DE.. I made the switch about a month ago after becoming disillusioned with the ever increasing cost of carts, plus the fact I now seem to get fewer and fewer have per cart before feeling like my face has been hacked to pieces. The switch to a DE razor has entailed quite a steep learning curve, but I was surprised that it also made shaving a relaxing enjoyable task in its own right... Strangely learning to use a DE has also resulted in a new found appreciation for the engineering behind a swivel head cart such as the Mach3.. If I make a mistake with a DE or try to cut corners, I am punished with nicks or weepers...A cart on the other hand is far more forgiving and you can literally race it across your face with very little thought to technique, and still get a very good shave... Anyway, before finishing, I would add that away from shaving, my passions are deer stalking, hunting in general, and shooting. I already have a reloading room, but now it looks like I will need to add a shaving den! Regards and best wishes, Peter
A warm welcome to you from North Texas. You might want to take a look at some of the references contained in my signature line below for discussions of the 30 Day systems and more on shaving hardware and software. With that being said ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Welcome to the Den - Pete - I can attest that the shaves improve quickly - You have come to the right place to learn.
Glad that you landed here at TSD, Peter. Join us on The Shave of the Day thread. It is fun, and you will see all kinds of products. And please Mark YOUR location on the TSD map - instructions here.
Hey and welcome buddy, fellow newbie here Awesome to see from the TSD map you live near Chirk - beautiful part of the UK, I did the canal route from Wrenbury to Llangollen and back last year and the scenery is just stunning! The castle in particular was also awesome.
Talk about it being a small world! I live on the other side of the valley to the castle and can just about see it from my bedroom window..In fact the woodland where our small group of cottages are located was originally planted to provide the castle with firewood.. I count myself so luck to live in this area of the UK, but sadly due to work reasons, it looks like I will be moving in the near future..I hope to remain in Wales, but a bit further north where its not quite so scenic....
to TSD "Pete E" I'm glad to see your trying out "traditional" shaving. I think you'll find that DE shaving is much better as well as CHEAPER than cart shaving in the long run. I'm also glad to see that shooting and reloading is still practiced in the UK.
Wow you must have a gorgeous view. I'd love to live somewhere like that but I tend to stick around Cambridge due to the massive technology hub and plenty of jobs being available in the tech sector. I'd love to go back to that area on a narrowboat it was 100% the best journey we've done, we did around Birmingham a few years ago which was nice but there were some areas were you felt slightly unsafe - the route to llangollen though was just gorgeous and none of the worries that surrounded Bham. Cambridge has its beauty too though I guess. Small world, like you say!
Welcome to the Den! And you hunt also. Cool. Yep, you will need more room for your new "hobby" that will quickly turn into a new life style!
I did the Broads in Spetember a few year ago and that was really nice and we were lucky with the weather although I suspect it is very busy in the summer. There is a canal that goes through or near the Brecon Beacons..its name escaps me now, but that is supposed to be a beautiful trip to make..
