Good 2 pass shave this morning. Love the scent of the Amber Romance, still not sure if I like the performance. Was a fun change of pace today though.

Prep - Hot shower and towel
    Brush - VDH Boar
    Soap - Arko
    Razor - Edwin Jagger 89l
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
Post - Alum & The Veg

Trying a couple of blades through the end of the month starting with the Super-Max Platinum from Vidyut in India. I ranked the Super Platinum as the top blade in February's blade trials so was curious about the Platinum. I pulled the EJ89l out and loaded up. Very nice, comfortable shave with very little irritation as proved by the very quiet alum. Just a bit of sting where I buffed a bit on my neck. Otherwise this blade seems to perform at the same level as its "super" cousin. I have read that the difference between most blades in their normal and super versions is mainly marketing, and I tend to believe it. I'm a salesman.....I could explain how much superior the "super" is until you pay three times the price for it, but it's a lot of smoke and mirrors.

    Gillette New razor
    Astra SP blade
    Williams SS (modern stuff)
    FS Finest brush
    Osage Rub/Witch Hazel/Sage mix
    Colorado Sage Cologne

I know many don't like modern Williams SS, but, when you get the lathering technique down, it provides an excellent shave. That's what I got, an excellent shave.

I find it kind of mild. I have a coarse beard. On one forum I belong to they all say the H-1 is the most aggressive, (the people in that group,BATTS) I really think it falls down to the blade you use. I don't find it the same, if I use an Astra SP it seems very mild. If I use Wilkinson Sword I get a better shave. But there again When I use a Astra in my Weber or I use a Wilkinson in my Weber, the shave seems almost exactly the same. YMMV

    Williams Wednesday
After a horrible shave with the Blue Tip on Monday, I went back to it today. Never let the tools get the best of you. Loaded with a new Astra SP blade I got an excellent shave. I can attribute the poor shave to a bad blade. I am just to bullheaded to change the blade midstream.

Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette Super Speed 40's, CMON Filarmonica Doble Temple straight razor
    Blade: Astra SP (4)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
After: Home made ASB, Nivea for men after shave balm
    Cologne: Guerlain - Songe D'un Bois D'ete

My face was feeling a little dry, so I pulled out the MWF. The MWF exploded off of the #6 this morning. I had enough thick lather for 10 passes in the scuttle. The Fily and the SS did their jobs admirably. The Nivea ASB gave some good hydration and the Songe D'un Bois D'ete will have me smelling great all day. All in all it was a Darn Fine Shave this morning.

    Have a blessed day!

Its the complete opposite for me regarding the razors. I often wondered if poor preforming razors need to be serviced properly and thats why the ymmv?

I'll read any post that describes the SOTD. I find it informative and interesting.

    ram57 Don't Open til Christmas

I use to own the R1 traded it for the R2 and I found the R2 (open comb) to be a tad better shaver for me than R1. The M series is the mild razor, R series is the middle range and H series is their most aggressive then you have the slant variants. To me, the R1 was just a tad milder than my Weber, with the R2 equal to my Weber and the H1 and H2 are aggressive but not '11 R41 aggressive but still a smooth razor and my favorite series from ATT. I would place my ATT Slant S1/S2 very similar in closeness in shave to my R2 but a little smoother. But as we all know, YMMV.
