    Wonderful Wednesday
Do you remember the player or players who really fostered your love of baseball (or your favorite sport)? Mine was, without a doubt, Mark Fidrych. He was a breath of fresh air and excitement that simply cannot exist today. His epic rookie season in 1976 marks my awakening to baseball, and his infectious love for the game and for life shaped me as a kid. It was obvious watching him play that he took such joy in the game and played for the joy, not the money. This was before soundbites and twitter could harm a career, and regrettably, before effective diagnosis and treatment of torn rotator cuffs. His career was cut short due to injury, but I never forgot him, and got his autograph while meeting him during the final season of Tiger Stadium.

Oh, yeah, the shave! I paired Ferox with Cologne Russe, and they compliment each other very well, as expected - the peppery Ferox balances well with the sweet Russe. This was an excellent shave over all, with der Vorschlaghammer returning to remind my stubble that everyday will not be as kind to them as the Aristocrat was yesterday. My face feels great - no irritation or weepers to be found.

Prep: Warm shower, tea tree and e face wash
    Soap: B&M Ferox
    Brush: Brothers Bristles Beast Plisson
    Razor: der Vorschlaghammer
    Blade: Voskhod (2)
    AS: B&M Cologne Russe

Tried something new. I got a BBS shave, but it was more than difficult to rinse the blade. I'll use this method if I'm under a lot of time constraints, but I won't use it regularly. Somerset has a ton of menthol in it and is regularly available.

I'm so scared of shaving oil because I get the feeling that any second the blade will slip and give me a bad cut.

image.jpg Razor: Gillette New LC Bar Handle 1930s Big Boy wood case
Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Post Shave Gel, Halston Z-14 cologne
Back with the Gillette New LC again, and I'm looking forward to another good shave with it. Loaded a Feather blade, and checked the alignment. Looks good and I'm really liking this razor. The silvertip whipped up a thick warm lather in the OS Mug. Nice grapefruit scent from the TOBS. First pass was very close, and the razor sang a nice tune to let me know how it was going. Very nice two pass shave with some touchup on my trouble spot on my neck. No buffing needed today. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB balm. Finished up with some Halston Z-14 cologne. The living is easy. Come on Summertime........

My player was Orel Hershiser. I already enjoyed watching and playing baseball, as I was 13 or so when he went on his streak. But for the first time in my conscious sports life, my team was making a run at a championship. His season was magical for me, and he was a good guy to top it off. My dad and I still talk about that season as we also really bonded during that time.

Its funny that this subject has come up about shaving oil... I didn't know there was such a thing or way of shaving. I saw this video just last night and now it's mentioned this morning...

I started using PSO 20 months ago and since I have included it in my pre-shave routine have had just one nick and zero irritation. The nick was actually my mistake as I was using a R41 and flipped the razor to use the other side but did so too close to my right side of my chin and the exposed tab end caught me. I've been told my PSO (secret) formula is slicker than others out there and maybe the reason I have been nick/irritation free and having used five different artisan/OTC PSO I do prefer mine over the others.

I know of PSO's but not as the only shaving product. Usually I've seen it used along with a shave soap/cream.

Oh its still a 4 week effort. I'll likely skip tomorrow but I'm going to keep at it. The first week was deceptively good. This one sucks. Can't end on a down note.

Steve Garvey was one of my favorites growing up and I was lucky (as a Canadian kid) to see him live, playing in an exhibition game (Padres/Cubs) in Vancouver in the 80's.
