Ok, this may be a little long winded

I have bought three new and one used Hart. The quality on a Hart used to be great but went down hill for a while ( maybe still is) I had to send two back because of shoddy workmanship. They did replace them with acceptable razors. For that reason I am hesitant to buy another new one ( however) that's not the only reason. The scales are not very durable and will eventually break at the hinge pin ( especially if you like it tight as most do. Who wants to leave the screw loose and have it flop around while shaving) The allen screw is a nice idea, you can take it apart and clean it regularly but do not tighten it snug. Ask Glen how many scales he has replaced. I had him do one of mine. THe other reason I would not buy a new one again is resale. When they come up on ebay they go for about $200 or less. So you pay $300+ and don't like it and you will take a pretty big hit. That's the bad. The good is, they will shave with the very best razors. They hone easily and will take an edge as good as any razor out there. I also like the weight and beefy feel of the hart. Aside from the bad, I find myself reaching for a Hart often because they shave so well.
As far as Portland Razor Co. I don't and have not owned one so cannot comment but I would venture to say because they are new, the resale will be poor also until they prove or disprove themselves

Would I buy another Hart - YES but not a new one for $300+ or -

cubancigar2000 about covered it. I like my Hart but one's enough for me. I have zero complaints about the razor, fine shaver but I prefer more hollow ground blades.

    today I used
Clauss 5/8 full hollow round tip.
three passes, would have been ok. but I touched up with a red tip.
    the blade got:
a few passes on the barber's hone( I'm guessing about 8000 grit)
    20 laps(b/a) bench strop
    thoroughly dried.

image.jpg Razor: Rescaled Dubl Duck 5/8
    Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5)
Brush: Jerusalem Olive Wood/WD Silvertip 24/48
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Cream: The Body Shop Maca Root cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Post Shave Gel, Old Spice 1973

First time out with this beautiful Duble Duck, that was PIFed to me by Cudarunner from SRP. I was only going to to shave from my sideburn to my jaw line on my right side with my right hand. It went so well, no gushing blood, so I did the left side with my left hand. That went so well I did my neck on my left side. Looking good so let's see about it being easier to do your upper lip with a straight. Left hand right hand going easy trying to figure out the best approach. Not pushing my luck I stopped there and finished with my FB, and only needed 1 pass. The Maca Root was nice and slick which helped get a nice shave. I use both hands with my DE razors, and it actually seemed easier with the straight on my left side, go figure. One little weeper on my upper lip left side. Nice cucumber smell with the WH, and then some soothing JB Gel, took care of the weeper. After cleanup some vintage OS. That was fun. I will do more tomorrow.

    today I used;
Henckels #81 4/8 full hollow "the spotted emperor"
I call it the spotted emperor because early on in my straight journey. I failed to completely dry between the scales. next time I picked up the razor, it had three spots on the blade. I've tried to cleanup the spots with everything short of sanding. the become faint, but always return.
I have two of these#81's, the internet says they're called emperor.
now I use the spots to tell the difference between the two. 20150428_075732.jpg

image.jpg Razor: Dubl Duck Special #1 1947-52 (rescaled)
    Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5)
    Brush: Whipped Dog 30/45 Silvertip
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Cream: Castle Forbes cedarwood & sandalwood cream
    Blade: Feather (3)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Post Shave Gel, Old Spice 1973

Second shave with this beautiful Dubl Duck. Lathered up the Castle with my silvertip in my favorite OS mug, sitting in a sink of hot water, for some nice warm lather. Spent extra time hydrating my beard with the Castle. Started like my first shave going from my sideburn to my jaw line on my right side with my right hand. It went well again, so I did the left side with my left hand. That went so well I did my neck on my left side. Looking good, so left hand right hand going easy trying to figure out the best approach. Not pushing my luck I stopped there and finished with my FB, and only needed 1 pass. I'm getting the hang of this but it will take some time to figure all the angles. Still not close everywhere but my cheeks and the left side of my neck. No blood today, and my DE shaving seems to benefit from working with the Duck. Nice cucumber smell with the WH, and then some soothing JB Gel. After cleanup some vintage OS.

    today I used:
Wade&Butcher 6/8 hollow with a squared end. blade is marked Sheffield(only).
I used the straight for the first two passes. de for the last.
I began the third pass, and wondered where the stubble was. I did a fourth, just as a victory lap.
