Another antique store swap. More progress on the brush I drilled out the knot...I have never done this...so did I drill out to much? At this point what do I glue the knot to?
Man I love those old brushes! There's just something about the look of many of them that I really like. Enjoy 45!
Well, the handle had some cracks in it and when you drilled they expanded. The handle was aged and more than likely stored in a hot area that caused the rubber ferrule to severely crack before you attempted to remove the knot. If the handle were good you would be able to build a shelf in it with washers or nickels to provide a place to rest the plug of the knot in. That one will continue to crack apart more and more as it is worked. I would chuck that one up to experience and not expend more energy and money on it.
Those 3 cracks were in it when I received it they were all the same size the antique dealer had no idea...lessened learned $18.00 down the whole. Glad I didn't order the knot.

Back in the day, most of the brush makers made a box that was either a clean unprinted box, or if it had an image, it would be the image of the nicest version of brush. They simply did not make multiple box prints because it would increase costs. It was a one size fit all approach.
