that's a great find! it always seems more fun to find stuff in the wild especially if it is for a good price
Currier & Ives mug. Found at local antique store. While doing a little research, and depending on who you ask, these were marked as either coffee mugs or shave mugs. Also, if I understand correctly, C&I is like a licensor for art and put prints on everything from mugs & plates, to wall hangings. Reproductions were made in Japan in the 70's but this one has no markings at all so I'm not exactly sure when or where this one was made. I got it because I liked the color/scene(full wrap) and is in the style of a shave mug(base & handle. That's what really caught my eye) This is "The Farmers home - Winter" Currier & Ives
I love the look of these mugs and have thought of picking them up, I am just on the fence because they were billed as coffee/hot chocolate mugs in many places. They would not be out of place in my collection and the more I look, the more I am probably going to get some. There were four total I believe.
Yes. There were 4 scenes. And yes, depending on where you look for research, they are listed as coffee/cocoa mugs. But I did find most places mention them to be legitimately advertised as shave mugs also(back in the day). I personally wouldn't want to hold on to it with the small handle to drink out of. The wife agreed with me that we recognize "shave mugs" by the way the base is shaped and the handle. This one was $6 so either way, couldn't go wrong.
Found a way to get Sharp Star blades in bulk and they arrived today. One of my favorite Russian blades.
some guys like fancy, showy, extravagant toys. when my wife wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday, this is what I wanted some folks see a rock. some see more
I've not tried shaping an edge, or bevel setting, but touching up, or finishing an edge I've done a little of.
Thanks! When I tried this blade I expected it to be terrible. It is the one blade so far that can challenge the Voskhod for first place in my lineup. I plan to spend some time in June figuring out the order of preference for the Mostochlegmash blades.
It is. I was even more impressed after its spa treatment. The box, which included the shipper, smells like it's been in storage for decades. I'm gonna use it in the morning.
My tub of Myrsol shaving cream arrived today. Im talking a serious amount of shaving cream. Based on a recommendation, I have placed some into an open bowl to dry out for a few days before use. The seller included a few freebies. A tube of Cremo Shave Cream, Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad calming aftershave balm and a package of Treet Platinum blades.
Four things ended up delivered: 1) Myrsol Emulsion - tried a little bit and love the scent and skin-feel. Very nice. 2) Durham Dog Dresser blades for my Durham Duplex razor 3) Silvertip Grade A 24mm knot 4) Rapide SE razor in great condition. The loot: The Rapide: A very unusual loading mechanism where you screw the circular plate downwards until the clasp releases tension to the blade.
