Well that's probably a no go for me then. I really didn't think about the connection with Burley and cigarettes. Maybe I had best stick with Virginias and VaPers.
I wish I had friends to sit on the porch with and enjoy a bowl. Honestly I need to smoke one soon I've resorted to dip working out in the chemical plants again and I feel nasty for doing so
Nicotine gum? And I hope you find the time Take your time...look at the wood grain on your pipe, look at the beautiful flakes/shreds, inhale the aroma. Think of the time it took to prepare the tobacco, carve the pipe. Slowly fill your bowl, pack it perfectly...honor the farmer and craftsmen who made your smoke possible. Relax, slow down...slowly char the bowl...let it cool, relight...savor the time.
Pipe o' the Day This pipe is Algerian briar of Italian manufacture. It was made for Humidor Pipe Shop in the eighties. I purchased it for my collection in 1994. If you're ever in Huntsville, be sure to check them out. Tobacco is Stokkebye Luxury Twist Flake.
Continuing to break in a new Lorenzetti that I purchased last Friday in Traverse City, MI. This pipe will be dedicated to Va/Burley and Burley tobaccos. I tend to dedicate pipes to a genre, avoiding ghosting.
That's the smart thing to do. But I've discovered that just a few bowls of a mild Virginia tends to clear away ghosting, even from Latakia. A good stem scrubbing also helps.
Oh I do love my English blends and even in your face Latakia. With that said, I use specific pipes for English and even different ones for Latakia heavy 'baccy's. Plus, I am an outdoor smoker so the "campfire" scent is welcoming. I do tend to smoke more Virginia's in the Spring and Summer and Latakia's in the Fall and Winter.
Neerup pipe with Stokkebye Bullseye coin by poolside while traveling on business. Bullseye is good stuff. I used one and a half flakes, and the nic got to me a bit. I'll stick with one going forward!
Pipe o' the day! This is my first go-round with SG Full Virginia Flake. Thick, dense and moist beautiful flakes, with a sweet pure VA tin note with no hint of casing or top flavor. I dried the flake for an hour before rubbing and slowly sipping from the rusticated Roma. This pipe is one of my faves, and my workhorse for smoking straight VA. Smoke this tobacco slowly, and you'll be rewarded. No too much nicotine detected, contrary to reviews. Have a great Tuesday!
I also recently picked up a tin of SG FVF after reading KCHighLife's post a couple of weeks or so ago. It sounded like it would be my cup of tea, or bowl of Virginia so to speak. Like most SG blends, it was fairly moist. I didn't let it dry enough so I was constantly relighting. But I did sip it slowly, and the flavor was outstanding, not in your face strong as long as it was savored at an appropriate pace. I didn't get any nicotene hit at all from a full bowl. Perhaps if I had paced myself a little better last night with the Bullseye, I wouldn't have gotten the vitamin N kick. The FVF is a great flake, just needs some drying. The tin is also beautiful. I keep one empty tin from every blend I try. Except for the SG Grousemoor I sent txskimo, I sent the tin to him also. We need a report on that Grousemoor!
I have been away from the pipe for awhile. I was in Jackson the other day, decided to see what the house blends at Country Squire were like. I gave Pirate's Alley a try tonight. It is their VaPer blend. I got to say I think I'm in love! It is not the most complex blend but plenty of great flavors. A very savory blend for sure. Hope everybody is having good smokes!
C & D "After Hours" (light rum flavor) with a Dark 'n' Stormy (cruzan gold rum & Reed's extra spicy ginger beer)
