After the euphoria of my first two days, I’m forcing myself to get to the long-term plan, based on all the advice and info from this site and its blade masters. The conventional wisdom taught to newbies appears to be captured in three words - technique, technique, technique! So I’ve set a goal to begin a 30-day Rule regimen hopefully on June 1. To do that I need to find a single brand of blades that are comfortable for me to use everyday during those 30 days.

So Spring Training begins today for my sample of blades. I want to try each blade, hopefully more than once to determine who gets to be in the starting line-up for the 30-day Rule.

Here’s the blades I’m considering for the trials:

    Astra Platinum
Astra Super Stainless (2 shaves, very nice)
    Bic Chrome Platinum
    Gillette Wilkinson Sword Stainless
    Personna Lab
Shark Super Stainless (today’s blade - close shave, but tugged noticeable compared to Astra SS)
    Voskhod ?

    Cheers!

As has probably been noticed, I have not posted to SOTD for several days. I have been having problems with my hands going numb on me.(again) :angry019: It seems to be always happening at the most inopportune moments. :angry021: I even lathered up a beautiful lather of a new soap that I am testing. The soap lathered up perfectly, but dropping my brush several times, it was more of a PITA than it's worth. :signs131:

I will wait a couple of days :happy088: I just wanted all of you folks to know that I did not fall off the face of the earth.:lam:

I hope that you all have a great Memorial Day weekend. USMC.jpg

    THURSDAY
(forgot to post here this morning!)
Final day of a seven-consecutive day use of the same razor (moving on to another tomorrow). This Böhler Stahl is a regular part of my morning razor rotation as it is just a sweet, smooth razor to use. Super smooth edge that glides effortlessly and it is one of my few razors that has a round point. It's been a pleasant week using this razor and I look forward to revisiting it again in the near future.
By the way: the TSD mentholated Blue Floid lanolin soap stick is wonderful stuff!

image.jpg Razor: Gillette Ball End Tech NDC (declared 1947) Birth Year
Brush: Erskine Badger 1947 Birth Year
Mug: Old Spice (early glass Mug 01) 1947 first glass mug Birth Year
Cream: Cella (new jar, my first one lasted 1 yr)
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Balm, TOBS Luxury AS
No straight today, going mild with my Gillette Tech which is a nice mild razor for me even with a Feather blade. The Erskine brush whipped up a thick warm lather in the OS Mug as it was sitting on a wash cloth, for padding, in the sink that was filled with hot water. Very nice two pass shave with some touchup. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB Balm and some TOBS. Have a good one y'all!

That's a good solid sample of blades, what helped me was that I kept very simple notes on each blade.

    5/21/2015 Throwback Thursday!

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Muhle R101 (2011), French Fau Frame Back straight razor
    Blade: Pol Silver (4)
Brush: Col Conk - Pure Badger
    Soap: Proraso - Red
After: Home made ASB, Nivea ASB
    Cologne: Midnight in Paris

Another Darn Fine Shave + on Throwback Thursday. I dug deep into the cabinet to find the Proraso red tub this mornning. The Proraso whipped into a nice lather. The R101 and the Frenchy mowed down the stubble very well. The Nivea ASB brought the needed moisture and the Midnight in Paris will have me smelling good all day.

    Have a blessed day!

You are doing great. Also keep in mind that the blade you like best now will likely change as your technique improves.

    SoTD Thursday May 21

I took a few days off from shaving due to my schedule so I am hoping for a great shave tonight.

4th day using this setup, but I'm going to put in a new feather blade. I think it could go for another shave or two but for the overall cost of a blade I'm more concerned with getting the best shave possible.

    Cold Water Shave:
    Pre: home made PSO (spearmint)
    Brush: Omega Pro
    Blade: Feather stainless
    Razor: EJ de89kn

Hope it is just a short term situation Patrick. It's a PITA getting old isn't it? I just turned 58 and this year my knuckles get a little stiff when storm clouds are in the area.
