Picking out a pipe and a tin in a few! Your post makes me wanna crack my tin of Dunhill DeLuxe Navy Rolls...
That's one of the few aromatics I like. Just enough cocoa like flavor, sweetness, and room note to be called an aromatic. Another favorite of mine is Sam Gawith's Chocolate Flake. Like any other Gawith offering, it comes pretty moist and needs a little drying. The flavor is more Cocoa than chocolate, with just enough latakia to influence the flavor. It is not an in your face latakia blend at all, and you might be hard pressed to notice it. But like so any things, it adds to the overall end result. Certainly not an aromatic either. I'd love to see the custom made Churchwarden!
Pipes and Cigars.com has a 20% off sale on Stokkebye bulk tobaccos, including Bullseye, Navy Flake, Nougat, and many others. http://www.pipesandcigars.com/brands/1415/peter-stokkebye/?type=Pipe Tobacco&slide=1 I saw the Stokkebye 701 straight Virginia, thinking of giving that a shot. It's a lighter color Virginia than McClellan 5100 Red Cake. The Red Cake is a superb blending tobacco, and I'm thinking the 701 will be similar to blend with, or maybe even by itself. Maybe blend the Red Cake and 701 to get a straight Virginia with both darker red and golden/light in it.
Yep, got an email from them about it the other day. Ordering some Black Coffee and some proper english.
My father in law's cousin passed away a few months ago (she was 93 I believe) and when they were going through her stuff they found about ten old pipes of her husbands and he has been dead for at least twenty years. I have to take a better look at them all, but when I get a chance I will post pics and descriptions. They appear to be older pipes. I am a new and only occaisional pipe smoker. Never smoked cigarettes. Nasty stuff.
Wow, what a find! There might just be some very nice vintage pipes in that group. Look forward to seeing some pics, and any names you can find on them. No doubt some cleanup will be necessary, but it isn't difficult it will just take a little time. Several folks here that can help you with that, if you don't already know how and if that's something you would like to pursue.
I would appreciate any and all help. I don't know a lot about them yet. I hope to have time and a camera soon. It's kinda hard to do more than a quick post right now. Thanks guys.
Sipping some folded and stuffed Peterson Irish Flake from the new pipe from a couple weeks back. Vitamin N is lighting me up! Will post pics of tonight's bowl... Have a great Saturday!
Ha! Vitamin N and I don't get along! Sometimes I'll get a bit from Bullseye, but not overpowering. I think I'll take your advice and stay away from the Peterson Irish Flake.
I am usually pretty tolerant... But Irish Flake is really strong. Only telling you so you won't waste your time and money. If you're not into the Vitamin, steering clear is probably smart.
Yeah, I love the Swan Vestas. You can still get them, but they're kinda pricey for matches being as you have to get them from someone in the UK. I buy them in full cases though to tryn make it cheaper. They're great because unlike other matches or lighters, they wont taint the flavor of the tobacco at all. I also have one of the small silver vesta cases like Gene Hackman has in "The Quick and the Dead". Also a great movie!
Everybody post pretty pipe here. Thought I would post my ugly pipe just for a change of pace. Savinelli 320 Basketti with a bowl Hal O the Wynd. Huge ugly fill in the pipe but it smokes great. The HOTW really comes to life with a good bit of drying.
No, no filter at all. It's their cheap basket or second pipe, they just put an old school stem in them. Thanks, BTW. If you like that one you'll love this one. It's a basket pipe as well just has a lucite stem instead of vulcanite. Savinelli calls them Grezza, I think.
I may have to try to find (and then afford) one. lol Idk, just a nice looking pipe to me for some reason.
