An ebony Rooney 1/2, in Super Silvertip from Vintage Blades. Their recent 40% off sale was just too good to pass up, and now that the brush has arrived I am glad I didn't. My calipers measure the knot at 25/50mm. This is similar to my Duke 3, which is my current favorite. I've pictured the Rooney 1/2 (straight from the box) next to my well used Simpsons Duke 3 Best for comparison:
got my menthol crystals in the mail today. I have been spicing up my aftershaves and soaps all day. I did not get a chance to try the menthol infused glycerin because I made it after I shaved but I am looking forward to trying it and adding it to my lathers. every place I called trying to find them treated me like I was 'special' and it seems like most people have no idea what menthol crystals are so I had to order online.
I received a few things recently: - another Bufflehead soap, a scent called Mannish Boy. Performance on the stuff is really impressive. - a Rooney Style 1/Size 2 super silvertip, couldn't pass up that clearance deal that's going on. It's a beautiful brush, a lot more backbone than I expected, but on the other hand the tips are not as soft as I expected. It's a scrubby thing. - a small decant of MPG Route du Vetiver cologne. Really rich, nice stuff, with sandalwood, vetiver, cassis and who knows what else going on in there. - a raw aluminum Standard razor, which goes straight into storage to have as a backup. Ok. So I'm not buying anything in June. Sabbatical month!!! But I come home from work today and my wife says she bid on and got me something... All of them are in great shape. Just need cleaning. Very excited about learning how to clean silver plated and see how the old type cleans up. The gold New is actually a Goodwill. I have one, but this one is in a lot better shape. This is my first auto strop. So lots to learn there. It is a series 3, that's all I know. The Injector is a Type G or Later. Didn't have time to look it up. But it's different than my G or E Types.
so i didnt "haul" anything today but, i did find a new supplier near me. it is a barber school and i went in there and did a massive fist pump in my head when i saw what they were selling...how i walked out of there without something is beyond me but i was kind of overwhelmed and needed to do some research....any ways they had the big bottles of pinaud, lime sec., citrus musk, special reserve, lilac vegetal,bay rum,draggon noir, etc.....aswell as lucky tiger, a full line of suavecito (i think?), and some other stuff as well...one was eau de ? (something)...i should just go back and take a picture, but they have feather blades aswell... so my question is, anyone have a good recommendation on any of these? i have used some thanks to @SDK and im a big fan of lucky tiger, lime sec and the vanilla
