Not to be confused with Reliable Electroplating for which there is not a lot of love on the forums. I haven't heard much lately but they have had quality and customer service issues in the past.
I've actually been to Razor Emporium and met and interviewed the owner and took some pictures. Always meant to write an article about it. The owner is an avid collector and has a truly remarkable collection of Gillette razors, which are on display in his office. They did have issues in the past caused by two things, a former partner and a former plater. I was asked not to disclose the name of the plater they use now, but I can assure you that the plater they use now is known for their quality and experience. Edit: This nondisclosure is not to prevent people from knowing who he uses, but to prevent competitors from using the same company.
Nope. They do disassembly, adjustments and polishing in-house, as well as straight razor sharpening, but plating is outsourced. Edit: At least it was as of February 2014.
I inferred from the updates I received from RE that the plating work was not performed by them. Whoever did it, wow.
There is this, or at least was as of about 3 months ago, a video on RE's web site that talks about how they do a razor revamp. In it, they say that the razor is "sent to be plated".
