Very nice review! Couldn't agree more! I too did some kind of small study with my dual comb one using the OC one day and the CC a different day as well as the OC on first pass then switch to the SB side for second pass and touchup if necessary. I dont think there is much difference in the two sides but there is a little. Both as you pointed out are very smooth and to me very efficient too! I just sent my heads back to James today to get them made a little more aggressive and cant wait to try them out.
That is super cool that you can have it sent back for making it a bit more aggressive. Did you come up with some way of 'explaining' the differences in aggression (ex: like a rating on a Slim, percentage, etc)? However he made mine I couldn't be more happier with how it shaves - perfect level of aggressiveness (which of course is highly subjective).
No I didn't find anyway to explain the aggression to James if that is who you are referring to. I did find a guy that has his modified and told me what the numbers were and that he loves it at the new setting way more. He also had used the ATT H1 and I think the H2 plates, which the H1 was my go-to plate and told me that if I liked the H1 plate that I would like the same mod he did. So I talked to James about the mod and he also confirms that if I like the H1, then he too would recommend the same mod. But of course YMMV but the mod isnt going to make the blade gap to .91mm like the H1 is listed. I didn't feel that was necessary as to me it is pretty close now shave wise and actually to me better than the H1 so I am just going up some and I think just that little climb will drastically improve the aggression for me without losing the smoothness and the efficiency that I love with the Wolfman. It is soooooo efficient I didn't want to press my luck but going up too high and like I said, it isn't that far off from the H1 feel but more efficient as it is. I need to find a H1 plate so I can do some more comparing. I went crazy after receiving the Wolfman that I sold it off! Dang it, should have keep it for more testing!
Now the h2 was a little much for me as a daily driver. I can use the r2 as a daily with no issues whatsoever. I could just tell him the specs that Stan has posted on the site. I'm really excited about this razor.
Head is the double oc. Finished is brushed/matte. We talked about as dull as we could get. Handle I'm still struggling on. It's like every time I turn around there is another awesome handle he's turning out!! I can wait til the last moment on the handle tho...
Had my 'last' shave with the Wolf this morning before I need to put it aside to go through some more razors. BUT - this is one razor that is staying with me and I can't wait to get back to it. Only had time for a quick one-pass shave this morning but that's all I needed - this razor is e-ffic-ient! I do have a super-secret razor arriving today that I am very, very curious about and am hoping to have a first post about it tonight..or tomorrow. Believe me - you're gonna want to read this one....
I have the WR1/WRH3 combo and love the razor. James does exceptional work and is a delight to deal with!
Wow, that is an awesome looking razor. Now I'm really excited of getting mine. Love the handle. I may have to email James for a handle change
I love to shave with my vintage Gillette's, but there is nothing fancier and nicer than a well built stainless steel razor. Very nice razor buddy.
What handle are you getting? I'm on the waiting list and I'm having trouble deciding. They all look so nice. I have it narrowed down to either 2, 4, or 6.
His machining truly puts all others to shame. Just beautiful craftsmanship at its finest! Looking forward to getting my hands on a brass version.
