Have a chance to get either the Muhle RM30 or Thiers-Issard "Le Dandy". Any wisdom on if one is better than the other or both as good as each other? Would really appreciate comments from owners of either of these. many thanks Simon
Been a couple of years since I have seen anyone mention the RM-30 it was thought to be a re-branded DOVO, so honestly I would just buy the DOVO in that case The Le Dandy is for sure a good solid choice in a SR Regardless of which you buy it is going to need to be honed to "Shave Ready" just to be clear neither is "Shave Ready" from the factory consistently... Every now and then one will be close, but as a new SR user you want a solid shave ready edge to start..
Just bought a new TI Le Dandy (great price). I was told it was shave ready, but it seems about as sharp as a spoon. Any help on how to get it shave ready?
I would highly recommend @gssixgun - he put a fantastic edge on my TI (that I'm sure my poor stropping skills are slowly obliterating)
I don't know if you can clearly see the edge, but the edge is not evenly honed on this Le Dandy! The left edge in the photo hardly has an edge compared to the right edge. I'm not overly impressed. How is it that companies that are producing razors for a hundred years can't get this right!
The company told me it was shave ready from their factory. They're the one's that told me it was shave ready.
I've actually heard back from the company this morning and they agree the razor is not as it should be and have kindly agreed to replace it at no cost. Hopefully this will sort the issue.
I like TI but they are never "shave ready" when you get them in your hand brand new. Not sure many are that could not use some refining. Every razor I have bought new has needed to be honed or at least touched up prior to use.
See the cute Oscar the Dog avatar above? Oscar's owner knows a bit about honing razors and is in the UK.
