What worked well yesterday worked good today. I got a BBS/DFS with "No Nicks or Weepers"
I am using a new shaving soap that is new to me. It seems to be very good. I was going to post this last night.
Maybe after all of these years I finally learned how to shave?

    Gillette Slim (k3) 1965
Brush: Erskine Badger 1947 Birth Year
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
Soap/Cream: Pre de Provence Shea Butter soap
    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Post Shave Gel, Vintage Avon 1981 California Perfume Co. Anniversary Bay Rum

Face lathered the PdP with the Badger, after hydrating my face real well, going for extra slickness. Nice lather. It's been a few days not using a straight, so going to start slow. Getting better and a little closer. Working on getting under my upper lip, and I'm getting better. Left side of my neck is a breeze with my left hand but my right side is going slow. Relathered and went for a second pass being careful, and changing the angle. I finished with my Slim and only needed 1 pass. Still working all the angles, but getting better. Nice cucumber smell with the WH, and then some soothing JB Gel. After cleanup some Bay Rum. Y'all have a good one.

    Tyr's Day:

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Stirling Glacial Obsidian
    Razor: RazoRock Bamboozled RAKE OC
    Blade: Bolzano (1)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (1, 2)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Myrsol Metilsol AS splash
    Cologne: Burberry Brit by Burberry

Tried to face lather the Stirling today. "Tried" is the key word. Extra scruff didn't seem to help give the lather more chances to blossom, and extra product and extra time (3 minutes loading, 5 minutes lathering) produced passable lather, but not good. The Bolzano worked much better than the last example of that blade I tried in the RAKE, but I had to stop at 2 passes and something between SAS and DFS results, merely because I didn't want to go back to the puck for another try at loading up the badger.

    Tuesday's shave

I have been using the hand soap sample that comes with MDC.

Does anyone know what it is?

I have been using it to wash my face and it's great.

My oh my, whenever I load my Glacials I use a grand total of 45 seconds. 25 seconds to begin, then I dump a palmful of water onto my brush and then I continue loading for another 15 seconds. That's all it takes for me to get great lather. Is your Obsidian puck from this year's batches or last year's? The reason I ask is because Rod said that the lather from his new batches is much easier to get, and I believe it. :)

    6/9/2015 Tobacco Tuesday!!

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Muhle R41 (2013), Friodur Inox straight razor
    Blade: Astra SP (2)
    Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair
    Soap: RazoRock - Tobacco #1
    After: Home made ASB
    Cologne: Aqua H2O

It is Tobacco Tuesday and a Darn Fine Shave was had. The Tobacco #1 was whipped into a nice lather by the Vie Long brush. The Friodur and the R41 (2013) did their jobs well and the Aqua H2O was a fine finish to keep me smelling good all day.

    Have a blessed day!

World Tournament of Blades - Russia vs. the World!!
    June 9, 2015
Prep - Hot shower and towel
    Brush - VDH Boar
    Soap - Proraso
    Razor - Razo Rock TTL
    Blade - gillette-nacet-stainless.jpg (1)
    Post - Alum, Nivea Balm

Last Russian in the tourney. It's the crocodile cutter...the Gillette Nacet. I remember this blade being pretty nice in my trials if a bit short-lived. So here we go against the 6 of the Ladas. It's Russian against Russian - Mostochlegmash of Moscow vs. Gillette of St. Petersburg.

Great Proraso lather leads to the first pass which is......a bit disappointing. Smooth but didn't seem to get as much reduction as I'd like. So another lather and back to the second pass. XTG and it seems a bit less smooth than I like. Finished well short of the DFS on the neck and I swear I can already feel some irritation on my face. Third pass on neck, XTG/Gillette Slide and I shouldn't have tried it. Finished with a barely DFS and I'm sure I saw a bit of blood but couldn't find the nick/weeper when I was done. Grabbed the alum and holy cow. Lit me up good. Even the Nivea wasn't comfortable going on. Wow. So much for my memory. My notes from the trials were a bit more accurate. Not my favorite blade by far. But, who cares what's my favorite...let's grade it.

Sharpness...given the poor results on each pass this one is a 2.....at best. I'd go 3 but I want to be generous. Smoothness....Not horrible but not perfect either. 2 it is. Irritation.......Yeah, this is a 4. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Result......debated between the CCS and a DFS. Decided a barely DFS.......2.

Total - 10. Annnnnnnddddddddd....you're OUT! I think I have one tuck of these around now so you may see these in a future PIF. Anyway, the winner is......LADAS!!!!!

This completes the Russian sweet 16 bracket! Going on to the Elite Eight will be the Voskhod vs. Gillette Silver Blue, and Sharp Star vs. Ladas. First, though, we turn to the World challengers. Tomorrow....the KAI!

Getting Ready to Go Back Home

I am ready to go back home and, before leaving, I shaved with this Mastro Livi Perugia 13.12.14, getting - as usual - the very best shave. Today I also had the time to successfully find a new bottle for my pre-shave oil. It was not easy but, at the end, I managed to get a blue bottle and this is what I wanted for my oil.
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Negozio Leggero Hazelnut and Lavender
    • Brush: Sephora Badger 491
    • Bowl: Chinese Cheap Bowl
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi Perugia 13.12.14, 15/16 Full Hollow, Spanish Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
    • After Shave: Breeze Yachting

PRESHAVE: Face wash with soap and warm/hot water
RAZOR: 1956 Gillette Red Tip (B2)
    BLADE: Voskhod (3)
    STRAIGHT: Red Imp 132
    SOAP: Mitchell's Wool Fat
    BOWL: VDH
    BRUSH: Tweezerman Badger
POST: Rinse with warm/hot water to get soap off and then some cold water rinses/splashes and pat try.

Comments: The shave today was pretty good. I started out with the straight and did the cheeks, jaw line, under the nose, part of the chin area and a little bit on the neck area (the more comfortable areas)! I had to refresh my lather as I must have been going to slow so it was trying to dry out some during the shave with the straight. I refreshed it and used the straight a couple of times in each area listed to get a feel for it and tried to go farther than the last try. I have to admit I did get pretty darn smooth on some of those areas and then finished up with a pass and some touch up with the Red Tip. Soap was great as usual and that is why I decided to use it with this straight try out. Great lather, protection and post feel. No irritation but gotta a weeper by the jawline with the straight but it disappeared just as fast as I seen it show up! I am not sure the Red Imp is actually "shave ready" but I wanted to play with it anyway! Over all I would say I had a DFS, more so with the Straight than the Gillette!

Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV!

    Thx.

I still don't feel 100%, although I'd say I'm better than yesterday. Here are my shaving plans.

    Wednesday:

Neutrogena Men Facial Wash :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    Large Horsehair Barbershop
Sabi 3-Piece/Sharp (Don't remember the day)
Stirling Black Ice SS :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:
    Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:
Alt Innsbruck AS :love055: :love055: :love055: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily: :Animatedfrozensmily:

I received a Sabi 3-piece DE a few years ago from Shaveabuck when I placed an order, and I think I only used it once or twice so I want to try another shave with it. Maybe I'll switch the Sharp which is still in it to a Derby to see how it performs. As I vaguely remember, this Sabi is a somewhat more aggressive razor but still not too bad. The Black Ice soap packs a pretty good menthol wallop, although it's nowhere nearly as strong as the Glacial Obsidian and they both have a very similar black licorice scent which I love. The Alt Innsbruck's scent is so nice and is it ever chilly. It's an aftershave which I plan to keep in my rotation. ;) :D
