The cream itself is pretty good. It is one of those that grows on me every time I use it, and I liked it the first time I tried it. It really does seem to get better. They claim the caffeine helps reduce irritation and redness. I don't get irritation after I use it, and I do get a little irritation every now and then with other soaps/creams. Is it because of the caffeine? Probably not, but you never know. I never really get redness, so I couldn't really tell you whether it works or not. It is lightly mentholated and lightly scented, and I like it from this stand point. I think it provides a good deal of slickness and does protect well. All in all, I would recommend it.

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette New LC, Imperial Razor Barbers Favorite straight razor
    Blade: Astra SP (1)
    Brush: Vie Long Horse Hair
    Soap: Tabac
After: Home made ASB, Tabac after shave
    Cologne: Tabac EDC

Tabac Day! The Vie Long brush had no trouble whipping the Tabac into a nice lather. The New and the BF did their jobs with ease. The Tabac AS and the EDC were a nice finish to the 2 pass Darn Fine Shave this morning.

    Have a blessed day!

Prep - Shower / Woods Of Windsor Cedar Woods soap / Pre-lather / 3 min steam
    Razor - Gillette Rocket HD
    Blade - Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge Yellow (#6)
    Brush - Omega 20106
Soap - Arko Soap / Proraso Green / Glycerine
After - Frozen towel / Alum & WH Mix
    Result - BBS+

Best shave so far with this yellow blade, which I find very similar to the Astra SP..........but dare I say better?
This was its first run in my Rocket and I wasn't expecting it to be a great shave due to mediocre results with the Astras.
The überlather is certainly helping with smoothness and protection though and I intend to keep using it with various other soaps and creams.

Once again I'm going to say that Rod's soaps are my number one favourites and for a very good reason - every one of them that I've tried has given me the best performance I ever experienced. The Glacial Lavender is NOT for anyone faint-hearted because it packs an extremely powerful menthol wallop which feels like putting your face outside in below zero weather. The lather is so nice to work with and I love the scent, which is a blend of classy, refined lavender and icy-cold menthol. This soap also provides perfect post-shave which is so important. Enough talk about the Gold Bond - no doubt that whoever has tried it will agree that it's wonderful. The Rubby Dubby Doo needs no explanations either! ;) :D

PRESHAVE: Face wash with soap and warm/hot water
RAZOR: ATT R1 / Bulldog handle
    BLADE: Astra SP (2)
    STRAIGHT: Red Imp # 132
SOAP: Soap Commander "Blue" (1st try)
    BOWL: VDH
    BRUSH: Tweezerman Badger
POST: Rinse with warm/hot water to get soap off and then some cold water rinses/splashes and pat try.

Comments: I started with the Red Imp in hopes of getting most if not all of my shave in but it didn't work out as planned. I was on my second pass when I noticed some irritation on my cheeks and chin areas so I stopped, re-lathered and proceeded to complete the second pass but I just couldn't use the straight anymore so I quite using it and fired up the ATT R1 and did a pass and a little touch up to complete the shave and be happy with it. I am not sure what caused the irritation but I figure it could be one of three things or combination of. Either a little too dull, too much pressure and/or bad angle. I think I might try the Red Imp one more time before I put it away if it seems like it isn't sharp enough and watch, really watch my pressure. I have some irritation and even though this was like the fifth time using a straight. Soap, this is also the first time I ever used this stuff and it is very good soap! I had no issues with the lather as it lathered easily and quite a bit of it. It gave me plenty of protection or slickness so I don't think it was the cause of my irritation! Some irritation and one weeper from the Red Imp on the chin from trying to get too cocky and dig out the hairs from my dimple! Bad idea but it didn't stay long! Shave ended up okay but could have been better for sure!

Please feel free to leave comments on any items used as I enjoy reading them to see what others say about the gear I am using/trying out! Of course, YMMV!

    Thx.

Day 4 and still going strong on this blade. I stuck to the shave stick method again and was again rewarded with a super easy 2 Pass DFS. This seems to be the best way to use Williams. I am having really great success by focusing on angle of attack ("riding the cap") and strict adherence to growth pattern. Just got home from Comida, a great little eatery inside an old 1880s brick foundry. It's a cool little place to hang out on a 98F day. Had early dinner with Mrs Samurai! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Have a great Weekend!

    Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus
    CWR, Asma Alum Block

The Kiss My Face Cool Mint moisture shave face-lathered well with my Omega 11137 Boar brush. Two passes with my Gillette Black Handle SS razor and a Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

The battle of the Teflon Titans continues. Or should I say, the Tremendously terrifically terribly tense Teflon Titan battle commences! OK, yeah I know, enough. It's the Gillette Silver Blue today following the Voskhod's performance yesterday. I was really interested in the matchup because usually head to head these two are nearly too close to call. Once again I ran the Pony through the Fat for lather and it is always a delight.

As with the Voskhod, this is the second shave for the GSB. And, much to my early surprise I felt a difference in performance. The GSB just seemed a bit dull and definitely not smooth as I expected. It wasn't horrible but was enough rougher that it was obvious. First pass produced a fairly poor result so the XTG on the second pass had to be on the money. And........it wasn't. Felt even rougher and didn't get DFS on the face, much less the neck. Lathered for the third time, which was the best part, and went ATG on face and neck and then G-slide on the neck. That did produce a DFS and I called it good. If it takes more than three passes the baby isn't in the house.

Scoring for today. Sharpness.......I'm going to go ahead and say a 1 just out of respect. I don't know if the blade was that much duller than the first run with it or just rougher, but smoothness is a 2, and that's a bit generous. Irritation? Alum proved what I feared.....2. Definitely burned. Result? DFS for the 2.

    Total - 7

    The winner - VOSKHOD!

This was not the result I expected. I really thought a tie was the likely outcome and didn't expect such a difference. Going back through some notes, though, I did find that my one complaint about the GSB is its tendency to get a bit worse with each shave while the Voskhod tends to improve on the second use and even the third. Whatever the difference in material or design, the Voskhod tends, for me at least, to last longer than the GSB.

Tomorrow it's the early Saturday shave and the Sharp Star is on the line. I'll be using the '59 Superspeed, VDH Boar and Arko as it sets the pace for its run against the Ladas. Onward and forward as the Elite Eight continues.
