I had twenty grand+ done in dental work done about 12 years ago including multiple fillings, 10 crowns, some over original teeth, some over root canals and some over implants. There is a problem with crowns if they are put over a living tooth. The tooth can still decay and if that decay gets to big you will need to have a root canal and replace the crown. I'm going through it now. The cost to root canal the tooth and replace the crown around $2800. To replace the tooth with an implant(basically a SS stud sunk into the jaw bone that the crown is then attached to) almost $5000! The cost to pull the tooth and then put in a piece of bone to fill the void in the jaw bone the tooth root comes out of(it's basically the first phase of an implant and the cost is $645) it's part of the $5000 total implant cost. That's what I'm getting the $645 job. So basically he's pulling the tooth and prepping the jaw for a possible implant if I decide to go that route in the future. The tooth is in the back and I'm too old, ugly and poor to worry about vanity at this point. I'm just really, really glad the tooth is in the back! The point I'm getting at is, you are young, if your putting the crown over a living tooth, that tooth can still decay in the future and you could still lose the tooth and would need to have the crown replaced. I've have two of my teeth crowned over implants. There is no tooth left to decay. I've never had a lick of trouble with either them. So I would talk to the dentist about either a root canal or IMO even better an implant. Although the implant will cost more, I think it's as close to bullet proof as you can get. Ask your dentist about it. Something to think about. My dentist also gave info on the Care Credit plan also, it sounds like a pretty good deal as long as you pay it off on time. Good Luck
I've already prepaid for everything and the extra cost of an implant wouldn't make my credit line. Hopefully with better oral hygiene I can avoid the tooth decay under the crown.
I had my teeth fixed at Marquette University Dental School many years ago in my salad days. Real cheap. Dental students supervised by their professors. Work has held up to this day.
Yeah, I just recently paid $3850 for a new transmission. Hopefully I'll keep my teeth longer than that car. I always bragged about how good my teeth were, I didn't have any problems until I hit 50, then things started to go to hell in a handbasket.
