  3. Hmmm, well seems a good place to show off one of my favorites that I restored from the dead and used today...

Started life as likely a Criterion, a New Deluxe of some name. No box so hard to say really. This razor was used so much it was wearing the diamond pattern on the brass handle tube. Nice crack in the neck too.

No way to tell but I suspect someone shaved with this daily for 50-70 years. After it's resurrection, it is truly one of my favorite razors.

Thought I would share on here my 1918 Gillette Khaki set. Beautiful razor. Gives a magnificent shave.

  6. 6/21/15 - Happy Father's Day.

    Used my Gillette Goodwill today.

The Goodwill razor was produced between 1931-1935. History: The Goodwill razor set was sold during the Great Depression as an attempt by Gillette to stay in business even during tough times. People would buy a pack of blades and get a free razor set included- hence the name.
Shaves great. The diamonds in the cap actually fit into the blade and holds it very good.

  9. Today, I shaved with my Gillette Old Type. I will be using my Gillette NEW and then Merkur 15c after that. I am giving each of my razors a week this year until I have used each razor. This will take me into December.
The Old Type is the most aggressive of my open comb razors. I got a great shave today because I have learned to use no pressure and go slow with this razor.

  12. Help me out here. How can I tell the difference between the goodwill in the picture and a New long comb from 1930?

  13. So the Gillette goodwill diamond shapes on the plate. Some fit threw the cap and some don't. Here comes pic of it.
  14. New is one the Left. The one on the right is a goodwill...

You also find them with the shapes coming through the top cap like this...

I think I've seen them with squares too on the base plate. Some look like old types too. The word is they were using spare parts account the depression.
To me they are just a little more aggressive than the LC New and the diamond shape on the plate holds the blade very firm. I have no problems with blade alignment.
My News have just a little wiggle room I have to watch.
  15. Thank you. I was very fortunate to get one with a pretty decent handle. Those handles are notorious for their cracks. Mine has a very tiny hairline crack about 1/4 inch. It is hardly noticeable.
  16. I am hoping to one day have a goodwill razor in my collection. Beautiful.
  17. Thanks. This is really very helpful. I didn't know the difference between the two before today.

Btw, those are some nice razors.
