    Friday shave
    [IMG]

Pre: hot water wash pat dry. AOS pre oil

Shave: 24mm high mountain badger brush from WD. AOS sandalwood cream, lathered in newly acquired Old Spice Shulton shaving mug circa 1948-1950.

Razors: Dovo Ebony Spike. First pass
Clean up and 2nd pass with my trusty Mühle R89. 3 day old Astra platinum blade.

Post: Cold rinse..pat dry. Followed by AOS sandalwood as balm.
Finally, splash of Old Spice, just for kicks.

*Note to self: I've been very successful with the SR on the first pass. However, the 2nd pass...not so much. Started a 2nd pass, 2 nicks....switched to old reliable DE.

LPL (Le Pere Lucien) is a nice soap but just isn't up to the the quality of the lather made by MDC. LPL is close, but it is definitely not as great a soap as MDC. Still, I had a very nice shave today. 3 passes

    Homemade PS Oil
WD High Mountain Badger 30 mm
    Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Deja Fougere
    Phoenix dbl OC
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Brut Classic AS

A couple of first time uses for me today: the Phoenix dbl OC and Deja Fougere soap. The razor was great this morning on its maiden voyage. The soap was a bit mixed for me. I greatly enjoyed the scent, but struggled with the lather. I will have to work on it a bit. All in all, a near BBS shave this morning.

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Gillette Senator, Hamburg Concave Quick Cutter straight razor
    Blade: Astra SP (7)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Cella
After: Home made ASB, Nivea after shave balm
    Cologne: 1969

Happy Friday! The #6 brush whipped up the Cella into a thick lather. The Senator and the Quick Cutter did their jobs well. The Nivea and the 1969 were a nice finish for this Darn Fine Shave.

    Have a blessed day!

This shaving thing never ceases to amaze me. Just when you get 3 not so good shaves from a blade, the 4th and 5th shave are outstanding. I figured since yesterday was a good shave, I wanted to try my new-to-me New Tech fat handle. Very mild, smooth shaver. Also, I'm finally figuring out how to use this floppy black badger brush.

I concur with your observations on LPL. MdC, at least for me, sets the 'soap bar' pretty high.
I was using MdC regularly for weeks, then stopped and began using a half dozen other soaps for the past month. These other soaps were still quality performers, making good lather and offering both slickness and leaving the skin feeling great.
But when I jumped back onto the MdC recently, the difference was obvious—effortless thick lather, refreshing herbal scent, and prodigious amount of lather from minimal brush loading. Love this soap! Now MdC can dry my skin out sometimes post-shave (a common condition to which I am prone), but a good post-shave balm remedies the dryness.

First time today with I Coloniali shaving cream. Even though the shaving cream is Rhubarb based and the shaving soap is mango based they smell pretty much the same to me.
For me this is a good thing as the only reason I bought this was to take on holiday with me. (The shaving soap comes in a teracotta pot which I've already chipped. Not the best container to travel with. ) I need a few days to learn this soap and get the best lather possible, but got a nice close shave with Milord today.

I have tried three of the Sterlings...Orange Chill, Bergamont Lavender and Bay Rum....and for each of the three I was able to tolerate the scent very well. They are all essential oil based scented soaps. The Naked and Smooth (unscented) is very nice as well. I have two more I have not tried yet...Tea Tree and Coniferous. I will eventually get to them. Overall...I am pleased with the Sterling soaps....definitely will order more in the future. Thanks for asking.

    Thanks Kevin. :)
I was lucky to come across it at the right time on the Bay and got it for a song. I was surprised to be the only bidder.

The C.O. Bigelow Shave Cream face-lathered well with my Semogue 1800 Boar brush. Two passes with my Gillette Old Type razor and a Voskhod blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Now this is what I would call a bone-chillingly cold selection that a hard-core menthol lover like me would be most satisfied with. The Glacial Obsidian soap has the same kind of black liquorice scent as the Black Ice, but ten times as much menthol so it could easily make a man's eyes tear. The lather is so easy to work with and the skincare cannot be beaten. (Like with all of Rod's soaps which I've used) The Anherb conditioner not only moisturizes and soothes very well, it's also very cooling. The Rubby Dubby Doo is such a bona-fide face freezer in its own right. ;) :D

no problem. I have been quite pleased with Sterling as well. there are so many great artisan soap makers that really take pride in the products they make.
