Just did my SOTD a bit earlier and I have to say I didn't notice anything different. I don't know if the new blade wasn't a good one or not but I used only the OC side of the Dual Comb one with a new Platinum Lux blade so I am not sure! It still feels super smooth and efficient like I remember but didn't seem more aggressive to me! I will try an Astra SP or GSB tomorrow and see if that makes any difference!
The prices for the late Cooncat Bob's stuff is at profiteering level now...but I doubt the value will fall as time goes on.
Yeah it's priced maybe 25% higher than I'd feel comfortable paying - and get my money back in worst case. I have that annoying 'rule' to not pay more for an item than I think I would be able to get for it if I turned around and sold it. It would be nice to have a piece made by a legend though.
I just won the final piece of the 1993 RL Safari collection. I don't normally do a SOTD picture, but I'll do one when everything comes in. These are what I currently have.
You just HAD to post that a few days before NBJ starts did you?!? That is some STELLAR looking gear. I want it all!
You guys are just expressing thoughts I've had for years. I have worked in retail for Ralph Lauren on two separate occasions over the years, and it's given me an appreciation for quality products. When I found out that they made a RL Safari shave/grooming set I decided I would own it. It's taken a few years and quite a bit of money, but I'm finally close to realizing my dream collection. The razor will be used for travel mostly, as I rarely shave with Atra type razors. Interestingly enough, the knot fell out of the brush yesterday. 10th or so use (I bought it NOS), it was held in by hot glue. The rumor was that the knot was a Rooney Finest, and time and many latherings on other RL brushes had obscured the truth. The gold sticker on the bottom of the knot proudly proclaims "Made in Korea." So, not a Rooney. I'm trying to get a HM 23mm knot from Whipped Dog, but haven't heard back yet. I'm running out of time to order...NBJ starts soon.
I've been on the waiting list for a Wolfman Razor for a while now. I don't own a Stainless razor yet. So have been really curious about the ATT system. So I took the bait... Got a 7 Piece on the way. Kronos and Atlas handles with M2, R2 and R1 Plates. My thought process is this. These might be THE ones. And it looks like some great razors with great reviews. If I really like them I'm going to just keep these and be happy and not get the Wolfman. Also, the Above The Tie razors are made in my home state of Tennessee. But if I have the money when the Wolfman is ready, I might get it too.
Last night I read your post about receiving these razors in a ziplock bag. I am glad you got the discount, but too bad about the bakelite box.
They are very nice razors. I have been fortunate enough to have a great friend that has loaned me the M2 and R2 this month. As much as you have like the open comb razors this month, my guess is you will really enjoy the R2.
Yeah, he said if I don't like the M2 I can send it back for the H2. I'm looking forward to trying them out.
That's the good thing about doing business with ATT. My friend, Wade dropped off a H1 for me to try out.
