I need a rules determination, gentlemen. Mustache wax. Wife says its shave related. I say it's the opposite of shaving since I'm letting it grow. In or out of rules?
Hmmm... interesting. If I were you, this is how I'd look at it. Not saying this is how you should, just showing how I would. The spirit of NBJ is to not spend or buy anything new, but enjoy the things you already have. If I already had mustache wax, then I'd think more wax would be inappropriate. If I had no mustache wax and didn't have a purpose for owning mustache wax other than it was something to buy, I'd think the wax would be inappropriate. If I didn't have mustache wax and needed it because my mustache was too unruly (or whatever, I have no idea why people wax their mustaches) then I'd feel okay buying it. Basically, for me, if it comes down as just an excuse to buy something or try something, I'd feel it violated NBJ.
+1. Executive summary: Buying because you need is OK (ex: ran out of blades). Buying because you want is breaking the NBJ rules (ex: you have 4 soaps and bought one because it has great reviews). Since many of us have a problem distinguishing between want and need - the safe bet is of course to not buy anything shaving related during the month. I personally see moustache wax to be the equivalence of hair pomade...for the face.
i didn't buy it. I have a batch of homemade mustache wax that doesn't really hold. The part SWMBO and I were disagreeing on was if it was shave related or not.
Not shave related. Shaving is the art of removing hair, if it doesn't play a role in the hair removal process, it's not shave related.
That sounds like a real need. It's not shave related, like Planofman said, it's not removing hair. It's also not just fulfilling an AD, which is the spirit of NBJ.
Well, it's not really a fire sale, but he's retiring from making brushes, so I figured since they are on sale, I'd grab one (since it was still June). He has Silvertips and High Mountains left. http://newforestbrushes.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1 Twitter post where he announced his retirement. https://mobile.twitter.com/nfbrushes Thread: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/new-forest-brushes-co-closing-doors.45748/ Going out of business items are exempt from NBJ, right?
I have to agree not shave related, but my definition would be blades, razors, after shaves, brushes, soaps, creams or bowls to hold the soap or cream. Has to be related with the act of actual shaving.
I'm still in after the first day but by a margin of less than two minutes. My last purchase was submitted at around 11:58 last night and confirmed just before the clock hit midnight. Blades from tryablade.com. Now, I have had my eyes on a new brush and my temporary "brokeness" is coming to an end shortly....I have to keep reminding myself that I have to wait until August 1 to get it. That may be the one thing that has the best chance of tripping me up. By staying on a 30 day rule this month I think the urge will lessen since I can't change brushes anyway.
If you already have some I think it should be considered cheating. If you are replacing a finished product then it's ok =P
Originally I said I was in, but with antique stores in my path for July I felt it was better to remove myself from the list. I did remove myself from the list before the July 1 starting gun went off.
Ok this is getting ridiculous. I've received three emails today from vendors touting sales. That 30% off at Lucky Tiger hurts.
I have been using Lucky Tiger AS and Face tonic for years and I can guarantee that there will be many more sales this year on it. There are some reputable dealers on Ebay, I bought my last bottle for $11.95, free shipping. Checked and he is still making the same offer. edit: looked at it one more time and now his selling liquid cream Dave
my best advice would be to stop checking ebay or the online vendors. this will help to make it thru no buy july. most of us have a nice collection of stuff built up and it's always better to enjoy what you have rather than lust for things you want. I plan on using this time to revisit products to get the right soap/water ratio. I went crazy when I started Wet Shaving and had to try everything so a lot of stuff I have only used once or twice. It is always a good idea to revisit products anyways. something you might now like the first time could be better the 2nd time around. LETS GO! NO BUY JULY! WE CAN DO THIS PEOPLE!!! and may the force be with you!
