I live in Sweden. I don't think it's hard water.

The cold water is drinkable, but I don't know about the warm/hot water

the discolored blade happens to me occasionally, I tend to think that the carbon steel blade reacts differently with different shave soaps.
you could try washing it, then alcohol rinse, then a touch of oil.
I wouldn't think that tarnishing is harmful, if it was clean to start with, you only put soap and water on it. it didn't have time to full on rust.

    Gillette NEW SC
    Sputnik
    CWR, Asma Alum Block
    Thayers Lemon WH
    Pinaud Clubman

The Col. Conk Lime Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Omega 11137 Boar brush. Two passes with my Gillette NEW SC razor and a Sputnik blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Lemon WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I think it's strange, I'm not sure I wanna keep using it. Did wash it and also dipped it in alcohol and shook it around a bit. So it's clean, it's just that that discoloration/rust seems hazardous to the skin.

    SOTD FRIDAY 7/3

    Razor: Stahly Live Blade
    Blade: Astra SP
    Brush: Semogue 1320
Soap: Stirling Margaritas in the Arctic

This razor was a thrift shop find by my wife as I've posted elsewhere. It's spotless, really shines and the mechanism works just fine.

I'm sure many members have seen/tried this razor. My first impression is that it is very, very heavy. B&B Shavewiki has it at 175g. Also, the size of the handle makes it very "bottom heavy" and unwieldy. I found that if I put the heavy end directly into the palm of my hand it was fairly easy to control So, hey, this is a vibrating razor so I had to put it through its paces. I tried it both vibrating and not. My thoughts are that vibrating it does seem to "feel" better. Not sure if the results were significantly different. It seems like a fairly mild head and I know some TSD members pair it up with a normal handle. Since this was an afternoon in-a-hurry shave I did 2 passes WTG/XTG and ended up with a really nice, very close shave. Nearly what I get with a normal shave with a "normal" razor except for my usual tough spots under the chin and along the jaw line.

I'll continue to use it to have some fun until my new Ikon slant arrives!

Sounds like he changed the formula for the soaps. The cream or at least the jar that I have has spiced Jamaican Rum and uses Essential Oils and touch of honey to go along with other certified organic oils/ingredients. Now I'm curious if he has changed the formula for the creams.

I have seen reviews where other people had a hard time lathering it as well. I would recommend a boar brush if possible

    Pre: Shower
    Brush: VDH Boar
    Razor: Merkur 23c
    Blade: Super Platinum Blue
    Soap: Glacial Obsidian

Holy guacamoley! I forgot how cold the Stirling Glacials are!! To paraphrase Samuel L. Jackson in Jackie Brown: Glacial Obsidian, for when you absolutely need to mentholate every mother trucker in the room.

A nice shave on a warm afternoon after the gym.

    Chabrawichi 555 Cologne

Needless to say, I LOVE those Glacial soaps so damned much that it's unreal. The Lemon Chill smells so wonderful - very lemony and refreshing with awesome lather which works up very easily, and a truckload of frigid menthol which hits HARD. The skincare of this soap is absolutely brilliant, as is the case of Rod's other creations. I'm so happy and grateful to have the Gold Bond and the Penguin also, because of the great effect they give me. The Penguin is a certified face-freezer which is quite easy to find here in Montreal. ;) :D
