I got a Gillette Aristocrat a few months ago and I am thinking about giving it to my dad for his upcoming 60th birthday. I was considering getting him a gold Gillette Tech Fat Handle (he loves gold), but then I remembered what a great shaver the Aristocrat can be. Not to mention it has a nice weight to it as well. Do you guys think it's a good razor to learn with?
Ditto Steve's reply. I got my dad a 'Crat. Wasn't my dad's first DE razor but will be a fine one for your's as a first. And not being ridiculously aggressive, your dad can surely use it in good health. Good son!
Gillette made aristocrats for almost 70 years, guys. Is this the three piece, TTO version, or the adjustable?
All I can do is completely agree with my fellow TSDers. Any of the Aristocrat versions would make a wonderful gift for your father. While I prefer 3 piece razors the 47-50 Aristocrat is far and away my favorite TTO. I'm sure your dad will like it and if, for some reason, he doesn't you can always give it to me. I'm probably at least as old as your dad.
The Aristocrat is a great razor for beginners and experienced shavers as well. I got mine when I first returned to wet shaving 4-5 years ago.
I saw one of these at an antique store in New Jersey, guy had a old computer stock paper box full of old razors. He wanted $15 for the aristocrat, I will be going back to get it and see if I can work on getting more at a better price.
What a great son! Do me a favor Spacehobo, please send a message/hint to my son...I turn 60 this year too!
The one I got my dad was the TTO. I thought it was the only one really. My Gillette history fu is not nearly what it should be....
