Yup the one that looks like a 500# bomb! The Weber Kettle is primarily for bbq-ing/grilling. That being said, there are aftermarket parts available you can use to turn your kettle into a smoker

Can one use any grill to smoke meat?

I mean if someone would have something like this

If you want to do both you can, there is a product advertised on the website "Amazing Ribs" called the "smokenator". They say it turns the Weber Kettle into a pretty competent smoker. You can smoke on the WK as is, just takes a little work.

Yeah and that website gives honest reviews of products. if its garbage they will say so. The other invaluable tool I recommend is a good thermometer that measues grill and meat. Maverick, Igrill, Thermoworks all make good ones

I would say yes. That book I mentioned will tell you how to smoke on a gas grill.
I smoked some amazing ribs on my Dad's gas grill over the past two years.

I don't have space for a big grill anytime soon. But definitely when/if I buy a house =D

Yes, as Steve said above, you can always make do converting a gasser grill into a smoker. It wasn't necessarily designed for that specific purpose, but it can serve as a good smoker.
The Weber Genesis is an outstanding gas grill. Mine is in blue (see below left in photo).

Ha! Good luck with that one! Consistent temp control looks to be the biggest obstacle...

Yes I watched a video on how to use it, it was no fun!

I think I want a hybrid. So I can barbecue with charcoal too.

I have never tried a gas grill. Does the meat taste differently?

I watched a video on charcoal VS gas grill.

The gas grill didn't get hot fast enough and wasn't hot enough for the steak. Now I know they were exaggerating. But is the gas grill maybe at a little disadvantage when it comes to heat?

Erik Redd Lizabeth, baby, I'm comin' to join ya.

It depends on the gas grill, my Weber Genesis has an extra burner tube for searing, it gets real hot, real fast. I burn my arm hairs off when using tongs to flip the steak.

The advantage of gas is convenience, in ten minutes the grill will be hot enough to cook on. Charcoal takes longer and requires more effort.

The pluses with a gas grill - quick, easy start and easier to maintain a constant heat.
The down side, in my opinion, is the flavor of the food isn't as good as when the food is cooked over charcoal.

True, but it boils down to what one is willing to do for great flavor.

It's the same reason some folks don't own pets - too much of a hassle to feed 'em, clean up after 'em, etc. Those who have pets are willing to put up with this for the camaraderie a pet brings to the home.

I'm willing to take the extra time and put in the extra effort required of charcoal for what I believe to be better flavor than what a gas grill can give. But that's me.
