A few more soap sticks arrive from my JUNE order (;)) from the TSD store.
I've really enjoyed @Queen of Blades JoAnna's shave sticks. The fragrances are outstanding but the performance is also top notch. Especially at those special deal prices, I'm a sucker for 'em!

I may need a separate TSD soap shelf if i keep this up…:D I have to pull four other pucks out to make room for the ever-expanding 'iced' sticks….

I wonder how far into July these June orders will continue to trickle in ;)

I have some I need to post that came in July 3rd...
and my New Forest brush came in today just as I was leaving for work. Do you know how hard it is to open a box and drive at the same time? :D

Indeed. Not only am I a relative noob, this is all taking place in a language other than my mother tongue; sometimes I'm bound to be imprecise :s Thanks for responding, though!

I blame JoAnna for offering her terrific deals so close to July.....:D

"Your honor, I object. There is no acquisition disorder involved here. This straight was given to me and cannot be taken to indicate anything."

That said, there have been other purchases made these last few weeks...

Anyhow, this landed in my lap. Straights are completely new territory to me. How do I go about it getting this thing shave ready? It seems sharp.

Got a Swedish DOMA on its way.
Cased with a NOS blade. I hardly ever see the Doma for sale so was happy to pick it up.

Odds are it may be 'sharp' to the the touch but 'shave-ready' it may not be. (sorry for the Yoda-speak :yoda)

Find a European-market hone pro. I know TSD member @Jamie Mahoney has a superlative reputation for top-line work. (see his post#196 above) PM him.

Thank Kevin I must! That means that getting at it myself is a no-go? Obviously, it would be a learning by doing. Will PM Jamie as you suggested, perhaps he can have a look at photos and see what and how much should be done.

Received my Mergress XL yesterday and wow, this this is heavy and solid!

First impressions: It does feel a bit back-heavy so it will be interesting to see how much of an adjustment it will be to shave with but I don't expect it to be too much of an issue if any.
Second impression: I should wipe off my fingerprints before I take any pictures as this thing is SHINY! :)

As Kevin said it may be sharp to the touch but shave-ready it may not, looking at the photo's it looks a very nice razor that should make a fine shaver.

    1901 Crowned GEM Safety Razor.....[IMG]

    Another Shot....[IMG]

    And Another....[IMG]

The "1901 Crown Safety Razor Set" was a Buy it Now job for £80.00, but there was Low starting Bid of only £35.00.....I stuck on a Bid for a maximum of £40.00 to stop anybody buying it and walked away and never looked back until the bidding was closed.....It must have had my name written all over it......There were no other Bidders.....Good Karma.....[IMG]

These are somewhat rare and to find a complete set like this in this condition is even rarer......It was a British Seller that I got it from for £35.00 and £3.00 postage......This razor has to be the most elegant looking safety razor ever made......Wow! .....[IMG]......

A Piece of Functional Industrial Art of the highest level.....Both the GEM & Zinn Razor companies were associated with the American Safety Razor Company just after the turn of the 20th century ...[IMG]

The GEM ZINN Lather Catcher was released on 1889 and this is the later 1901 "Crown" Model.....The 1901 Crown Model retained the Letter " Z " on the front of the retaining clasp......Out of all the razors that I have the "1901 Crown Safety Razor Set" has got to be the "CROWN JEWEL" OF MY COLLECTION.....[IMG]

I have never seen one of these before ....I haven't came across another one like it.....There doesn't appear to be anyone that has one over on the B & B Forum either.....That speaks for itself.....This is "Truly a rare find amongst rare finds".......This razor is in pristine condition ....I cannot believe the Nick" of this 114 yr old razor.....Its remarkable......It takes a modern Gem blade with a full spine as a shimming method the same as the earlier Kampfe......[IMG]

There was also another rare NEW GEM Safety Razor Set somewhat similar with hinges that opens for cleaning......There is a wee bit of a mystery to which one came first in the GEM timeline.....We will get to the bottom of it at some point, but I suspect that the 1901 Crown Safety Razor Set" was the earlier one.....

The "CROWN JEWEL" of my collection......[IMG]

I agree, these are really rare and a great score.
I believe Paul is cornering the market on NEW GEMs ;)

Aye, I didn't notice till yesterday that the Crown 1901 that I have is a somewhat different design to Pauls NEW GEM.....The NEW GEM has hinges and opens for cleaning like the earlier Kampfe Lather Catchers.....As you can see mine is a solid construction ....The two of them have the same BAR Design though......Its a real heavy weighted head with a thick steel construction.....A good bit heavier built than the Kampfe even....
I stuck on an early Ever Ready 1914 Cast Iron Handle and I cant stop looking at it....:chores016:.
