I really enjoy using the Dusy Kabinett. My sister-in-law is bringing me back 500g from Germany. :happy093:

    30 Day Rule - July 2015 - **MODIFIED**MODIFIED**MODIFIED
    July 12th
    Razor - CJB/Gillette New LC
    Blade - (5 1/3)
    Brush - VDH Boar
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post - Cold Water splash, Alum, Proraso

Please bear with me as I have experienced a major equipment malfunction. The CJB is out of commission, most likely due to my cleaning efforts. I decided to clean it and change blades today before starting. I slid the razor apart, removed the blade and discarded, then took my cleaning toothbrush to the edge of the CJB and a quick brush over the spring and latching holes. Did the same for the outside piece, just a quick brush scrub and wipe. Set it down to dry. Shaved my head, which was magnificent as always. Reassembled the CJB and somethign felt funny. It slid together way too easy. And, when I squeezed it to check it.....it came apart. Hmmmmm. Must have assembled it wrong because the spring should.....the spring should....the spring.......ummmmmm......there's a spring on the inside of the handle side....ummmmm...there should be a spring........yeah, no spring. So, thinking I must have knocked it out while cleaning I looked on the sink, on the washcloth I use at the sink, and then at the gaping drain hole. Well, let's have some hope...looked all over around the sink, on the rug, under everything and.......no spring. I have just rendered the CJB useless.

So.....thus ends my Rule, or at least it pauses until I figure out a solution or get another CJB or Artist Club razor. I went ahead and used the New LC and Voskhod for the whole shave. I also used the VDH Boar like I had planned and got a really fantastic lather. The shorter loft may be a bit better with the Fat. Two passes to a very nice DFS and I called it a Sunday. Now, trying to figure out if the CJB can be fixed or not. I haven't found anything on the spring or other parts for it. And, in the meantime, deciding what to do with the Rule/Focus.

Hope you are all having a Sunday filled with rainbows and puppies instead of technical problems!

Thanks for the kind words sir. The knot was fantastic but the best part is the 10066 knot did not require the collar of the 400 to be modified at all.

    Pre shave comparison day one
I decided to test out the two pre shaves I've been using lately. Today I put Van Yulay pre shave oil my left and Mickey Lee Lime Pre shave butter on my right. The butter is a little easier to apply because of its consistency, but the Van Yulay comes with a pump to dispense the right amount. I used Reef Point Test Depth for lather with my HIS and Fatboy set to 9/7/7, where I usually get great results. I nicked my mole during the first pass, and decided to stop the bleeding right then with a styptic pencil.
I think that was a mistake, since the lather for the next two passes suffered. I did not realize that the pencil would also "clot" lather and not just blood. I must've swept over the mole with my loaded brush, since the lather quickly dissipated - I've never seen that with RP or any good soap before. I tried washing out the brush and starting over, but the rest of the shave just wasn't very good. I had some burn and a couple neck weepers. From now on, I'll just let it bleed until I'm done.
Tomorrow I'll use the pre shaves on the opposite sides to eliminate the handedness bias. I'm not ready to make a call on the comparison yet.
Prep: Van Yulay oil; Mickey Lee Lime
    Soap: Reef Point Test Depth
    Brush: HIS
    Razor: Fatboy
    Blade: Voskhod (2)

    Maggard's MR3
    Feather (2)
    Satin tip synthetic
    Truefitt & Hill Rose
    Thayer's Rose
    Sally's Beauty Supply Bay Rum

I think I found the sweet spot on my MR3. I didn't shave yesterday and I only did a 2-pass today and it was phenomenal.

The satin tip brush is stellar. It's super soft on the face on the first shave. $15 well spent, for sure.

This is my first Bay Rum aftershave and I hated it at first but I find myself coming back to it a lot lately. Just really great all around shave today.

The spring is should look like this small metallic sliver that is 'arched'. See if your razor still has it attached.
    Good luck.

Yep, that's the missing piece and upon further review it snapped off..there is still a small piece of it on the handle end. It's possible it even broke off when I opened the razor and I just didn't notice it. I have read a few reviews of the spring breaking. One guy even had it break on only the second shave. Seems to be a possible design issue, especially since I rarely opened the razor.

How's the Stirling Vanilla Sandalwood AS? I have used that scent as a bath soap, but not in the shave soap or AS. Does it have decent lasting time?

Prep - Shower / Woods Of Windsor Cedar Woods soap / Pre-lather / 3 min steam
    Razor - Gillette Fatboy @ 5
    Blade - Feather Hi-Stainless (#4)
    Brush - Omega 20106
Soap - Tabac / Arko Cream / Glycerine
After - Frozen towel / Alum & WH Mix
    Result - BBS+

Love Tabac but I've been enjoying a run of überlathers so I used Arko cream because unlike the soap, it has very little smell to it. It created probably the most cushioning and protective lather I've used to date. Hence I've never felt cleaner. A very very comfortable shave

I really like it. I will say it's pretty sweet tho. More sweet than sandalwood. Sandalwood stays with me for quite a while. I can still smell the aftershave and it's 8:51 here and I shaved at about 11. But that may vary by person. I do have the bath soap as well and the scents r spot on.
